$2.73 here. Giving it away!
Don't say that until it's < $1!

Cheap gas such as Arco is under the $3 mark here in central Cali but the radio talk shows have been talking about a $0.50 to $1.00 increase by next summer. They were originally talking about gas over $5/gal but fortunately it's been dropping a bit (I won't say 'a lot' yet).

Anyone else hear about some big increase by mid next year?

Thanks
BigMike

$3.19 locally, but if you save up your gas points, I can get up to $1.00 per gal.  It also boils down to how much tax your city, county, and state has on each gallon.

Damn straight, and a few counties around us have had preliminary discussions but ours has not joined in yet. While the concept has some appeal, there's that saying about being careful what you wish for. If it ever happened we'd likely be one of the poorest states in the nation. On the other hand, we'd have more freedoms and more control over our own destiny. Not a bad tradeoff -- some things are worth the price.

Interesting. Is this a trend or just you and me? My last two tanks in my MR2 are down from 30-32 MPG to now 26-28 MPG...

reid vapor pressure (rvp), is a measure of how easily the fuel will evaporate, higher the rvp, easier to evaporate, winter blend has a higher rvp. also summer blend has almost 2 percent more energy than winter blend, this is why everyone gets worse fuel mileage in winter
Even the most primitive society, has an intimate respect for the insane.

Cheesemaker

Glad we don't have the winter gas here.  But I do lose gas mileage due to the wind, rain, standing water, and all the cold morning startups!!  I love in the summer, jump in, let oil pressure build up and roll.  Now, gotta wait for the windshield to clear.  And since I don't live too far from work, I use more gas warming up than the drive to work!!

^^ I hear ya Cheesie, I had the same situation with the coldblooded beast in my avatar. Spent more time warming up than the short drive to work. Nearly as bad coming home after work. Calculated fuel mileage for an entire winter and it came to 2 mpg.  :ack:  You read that right.....

Makes my Tacoma's slight mpg loss in winter seem insignificant.

:smack: Of course. I let my car idle for a good 10 mins every morning (it's a mid-engine that holds 12.8 liters of coolant and the radiator is way up front cold & all by itself with a lot of cold metal pipes = takes forever to warm up).

You can go through life being scared of the possible, or you can have a little fun and tease the inevitable.

Give a man venison, he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to hunt Blacktail, he'll be frustrated for life!

I don't know, give me a good ole classic Chev, and I won't mind the gas mileage.  I remember dad bitching when he had to fill both saddle tanks in his 78, and it took all of a $20 bill!!  :o

If I was to find a old rig like that, I would look for a newer trans to put behind them.  And regear.  My dad had a 85 3/4 ton, 350, 4 spd, 2wd with 4.10's, and got 14 mpg no matter loaded or unloaded.  If he had 5 gear he probably could have gained 2-3 more mpg.  The newer 5.3 are getting an average of 18-20 mpg behind a auto.  A buddy got 22 in his, on freeway driving.

My 22re 4x4 averages 20 mpg when I get out on the road.  But back and forth to work, I'm lucky to get 12 at best.  I'd be riding my bike to work, but I don't want to be riding it home after 10+ hours and in the dark, along a hwy.
