Needing to know
« on: Sep 01, 2006, 11:57:59 AM »
ok here is the "skinny" i have an 86 toy that i purchased.. it came with Arb air locks (front and rear), a lift probably around 6 inches or so if i had to guess, running on 35's need 2 more(since the passenger side looks like a racing slick), conversion done also but had to undergo some surgery since the person that had it before me screwed it up real bad  :tantrum: that is "hopefully fixed now with the spring hanger kit that a friend and i put on it, i put on board air on it had the motor redone by a shop (since it threw a rod or so since i got it)..... was thinking about building another turbo motor for it (since it came stock with one)...
I guess i am just looking for some more input on this like doing the rear Chevy spring conversion for it, a bumper with winch housing for the front like ARB (bullbar bumper) and winches????

the 20R head on a 80-84 22R block, raises the compression to 9.7:1  it cant be the newer  85 up block,  anyway it increases the compression ratio  and  even with stock valves and springs  the 20R head will run faster,  the combustion chamber is smaller  and shaped for much better flow,  as is the intake and exhaust ports of the 20R head

say a 22R  runs out of mustard at 4000 rpm,  the 20/22 hybrid will PULL till 5500 +

i ran one for a LONG time but after towing a heavy load  and detonating i went back to a 22R head  so i could safely tow

if i ever build a celica or 2wd truck  or a race truck it will have either a 20/22 hybrid  or a 85 plus efi motor  and add on a turbo from a Supra

on your motor that came with a ct20  turbo,  upgrading to the ct26 Supra turbo  will KICK MAJOR BUTT

hey 79coyotefrg where is that 1100 22r at on that website
The 22RTE Turbo engine was based on the later model 22RE (short block /tall head).  This is a similar but entirely different block and head.  The block was drilled with different oil passages to accommodate the Turbo oil requirements.  The cylinder head's combustion chamber had a different shape.  The piston was dished.  Advertised horsepower was 145.  The factory set the boost at 5.5-6 pounds, but completely stock internals survived boosts of up to 17-22 pounds, with proper fuel injection modifications.  This is a testimony to the bulletproof bottom end design.  Nitro / Methanol fueled dragsters, producing in excess of 1100 HP- used the original (modified) crankshafts and TOYSPORT pistons!
