rock. and. roll. :rockingout:

just remember, he can't wear a welding helmet with it spiked. :talkingn:

and I guess I should mention I was working on mounting brackets for my shittybilt front bumping unit.

After a little thought on the subject, I have gone the 4RnrRick route with my welder: .023 Solid wire and 75/25.  I hooked this thing up a while ago with .030 solid and 75/25 and I wasn't happy with the performance of it.  The .023 wire burns MUCH cleaner, and it seems better suited to what I do...I was able to lay solid beads on 16GA steel turned down, and I have gotten good penetration on 3/8" plate and still have more heat if I need it.

Now here is my question: What do you guys run your regulators at? It's been so long since I've used a shield gas (high school) I don't really remember.  Right now I have it set to 20 CFM and it's burning pretty good.  Any ideas on this?

EDIT: CFH, not CFM :gap:

skipnrocks

I run mine just a little below 20.

Life is too short!!!   Do something with it!!!

I run .023 also and love it! When I adjust my gas I pull the trigger and adjust the vavle so the guage reads 20 CFH. When i'm not pulling the trigger it's around 24-25 CFH.

not sure if he had it before or not, but the bolt holes are also slotted, a quick loosen, and the door will lift off

yeah...i didn't think it would work as well as it does.  it's 15 minutes well spent IMO.

NorCalToy

that looks like a good idea, but why couldnt you run just the bottoms and run the bolt medium tight then you could just lift it off?

i could run bottoms if i want, but this makes it faster to swap, you only have to loosen the bolts and the door limiter and off it comes.  otherwise you have to pull the lowers all the way out, unless you slot them somehow.

This is the WHITE_TRASH method, IIRC :gap:

NorCalToy

what i mean is do exactly the opposite of what you did, slot the bottoms and only run the bottom bolts and then you could just lift the door off without removing any bolts

you still have to loosen bolts though...same idea.

NorCalToy

yea i guess pretty much. i was just thinking you could almost not have too loosen the bolts at all. and you wouldnt have to worry about the doors falling off if the bolts somehow rattled loose.

i did the same thing to my doors for when i drive to trails in the winter.  Works great.  nice work

DTB

I thought you was supposed to slot the bottom of one and the side of another...that way you dont have to remove any bolts....the door slides up and to the side and slides out of the hinges

I did that to mine, but what with the door being too heavy it started to tweak my hinges. That lead to the door not shutting worth a :pokinit:...

i cant get all four bolts on each doors anymore.. and its ruining the hinges... those doors are fairly heavy for what they are.

You could do the top one U and both bottom ones C then you would have 3 bolts.

WHITE_TRASH

Slot the top one so its a U and the bottom one is a U with about half the sides cut off.  If the top and bottom both start into the slot at the same time its a pain to keep them lined up as you try to hold the door straight so the hinges don't twist on you.  I only use the upper bolts, I keep a cheap reversing ratchet wrench in the glove box for easy access.

With this way you can set all the weight on the bottom bolt and put on the top bolt in and tighten the bolts.  When I do my half doors I plan to do it this way

Duffil

I am not changing anything; it works fine and if the hinges bend, I'll get the 4x4innovations hinges.  Works fine for me, but then again the doors have been off since I slotted them.
