I just got pulled over coming home for lunch.  I have had my doors off since earlier this week. The exhange was as follows:

OPD: (walks tentatively up to vehicle) Hi...I pulled you over because you have no mudflaps and uh..no doors.
ME: You are right, I don't.  I see Jeeps driving around all day long with no doors on.
OPD: Well Mainly I pulled you over because of the mudflaps.  Can I see your license?
ME: (I pull my ID card out of my wallet and while reaching for my ad tem paper in the glovebox) You know I've had my truck lifted like this for about 3 years now and I've never been pulled over for mudflaps.
OPD: Really? Hmm that's hard to believe.
OPD:(takes ID card) don't you have a licence?
ME: I had to surrender it at the scene, that's what that other paper explains.
OPD: Oh...OK hang on a minute whileI have a look at this.

So he walks back up to the truck and says
OPD: So who do you work for?
ME: Oakdale Auto Parts.
OPD: OK...(hands me back my stuff)  I don't want you to think this is personal, I don't know you...We've never met before.  I don't want you to think that we are picking on you.
ME: OK
OPD: drive safely, have a nice day.


I think he could hear me as I drove off. He had nothing legal to bust me on and knew it, plus with what happened last week, I would have filed a harassment charge.

My Mom knows a CHP and she called and asked him if it was illegal for me to drive my truck with no doors. He said as long as I wear my seatbelt and don't hang out the door it is legal.

I've been pulled for this more times than I can count. Going stricktly by the VC you must have Fenders or flaps, or other devices. As long as you can prove beyond a reasonable doubt that your tires are covered by your fenders, mud flaps are not required. Tell the cop to eat a bag of dicks.

Removing your door is modification of the factory vehicle configuration, which is illegal in the state of California. I'd give you the VC but I'm off work in 5 minutes.
Jeeps are the exception, their doors are designed to be removed.

then there are cool sheriffs in Chico... i had my doors off for a few days and passed a few sheriff and a cop or two, they just glared at me and i waved and went on my way... didnt get pulled over and they all had their chance for the no door code i guess
