Braking question
« on: Jan 30, 2006, 08:02:12 PM »
I have no pressure in the pedal. it just goes to the floor. thus I have no brakes. I gotta figure out what the problem is.  I have bled the brakes in order (including the load sensing valve) 3 times in the last 4 days.

today had close call on the way to autozone. I bought and installed a master cyl. Same problem only when the truck is off I have pressure. b4 I had none even with the truck off. Now I have pressure when the truck is off after I pump it up. I went back to AZ and they said it was my slave cyl. so I bought one of those. I have an slipomatic still till wed. where I begin the swap to 5speed. this is my daily driver so I have to take it to work everyday. I really need to figure out whats up. I bleed the whole truck after the master cyl install. very little air in the lines prolly from the master install. Is there a slave cyl on my truck for the brakes? and if so where is it?

Is there some thing I am missing?  Please help. :inthedark:

there is not a slave cylinder for the brake system, the cylinders are actually mounted on the wheels as a wheel cylinder (on the rears) or calipers up front

as far as MCs go, parts from autozone like that suck, and are defective about 85% of the time..... its also very possible during bleeding of hte new mc that you blew it out, it happens quite frequently on the mcs from az and hte like

yeah, I have know the guys up there for 9 years we hang out and stuff, so I figured they would not steer me this bad. I guess I might just have to take it to the shop. and return the non existant slave cyl.... yeah the mc that was in there was frm az or atleast it was a reman. so shoud I just get a new mc and do that all again? My pedal pressure did improve while the truck was off. butnot when the truck was on.
Or should I just take it in to the shop and stick with the slipomatic for 2 more weeks?

yer booster could also be going bad..  when mine went bad i had peddle pressure with the truck off.. soon as i started the truck i had none.. straight to the floor like nothing was connected to the peddle.  this is with a  1 1/4 corvette MC too.  switched my booster and everything came back

I will check the calipers tommorw.  The rears are not. The lines from the back to atleast trans arent either. I looked  there on my search for the elusive slave cyl.

thats what I am afraid of.  I was thinking that but could not get a straight answer.
I have never messed with the booster is it difficult to change?

its fairly easy.. just unbolt the MC from it  then inside  there is 4 nuts  and the pin for the brake peddle

I am starting on the swap. can I use a clutch/brake pedal in a auto truck. till I finish the rest of the swap? cause I will be messing with that area any ways. I wonder if I can or should I just do all of this at one time?

might aswell just go ahead and swap in the clutch/brake assym since yer in that area  i dont see how it would matter.  you will have to cut the appropirate holes for the studs/ clutch MC though

yeah  I need to get a hold of a truck/4runner about the same year to measure for the holes and to see where the clutch lines go and for the stick.
