As in Rambler, you didn't say what kind of vehicle.
Does it go away when the clutch is disengaged? If you do alot of driving with alot of weight in the truck, firewood, scrap metal, or whatever, to not use fifth gear! I found this out on my truck, was doing alot of wood cutting for the winter and one day had this noise that sounded like a throwout bearing going bad. Well, it wasn't the throwout bearing, but the middle bearing that takes all the load when in fifth gear inside the tranny!But it could be anything, so it sound like ya need to investigate a little further! And get back to us!
When you put your head below the floor boards of my rig, when its idleing, there is a clickity tick tick sound coming from the transmission area. it doesnt get worse with speed and the truck drives fine.what could it be?
Don't worry it will go away when you buy the new transmission.. Sorry had to say it... Try some lucas gear oil in the transmission.. If it's not a loose heat shield or something like that.
its alright, maybe its time to investigate a little further into puttin a 302 in it PS: i really couldnt think of any better combo of smileyes then that regarding my thoughts to a tacoma with a 302 in it.
I could think of something funny in doing the swap........ once you are done with the swap and are test driving your truck, you hear a funny little clicking noise as you drive down the street.
i was aiming at putting in a tranny designed for the 302, not just using an adapter to mate a 302 to the stock tranny, i was also looking at using a chevy 350 and a TH350 tranny, although for now, i just hope my tranny isnt going
The turbo 350 is a good tranny.. I would go with a 327 in the tacoma.. That's a 302 with 350 heads, cheap horse power, lots of snap when you need it.. Great little engine, with high power to weight ratio...Not great for large heavy trucks, but great in a ranger/S-10/tacoma size truck. I believe a Chevy 302 is a 283 crankshaft put into a 350, so that you have a big bore, short stroke that would give you some quick revs and some top end power. Not a torque monster. But, if you build it right, ( and throw a lot of money at it) you can get 10,000 rpms out of it.
