« on: Dec 25, 2009, 01:58:42 PM »

how can i identify the tranny the truck is a 88 but has a swapped motor, anwhere the is a modle number? thanks guys

X2, do a complete rebuild.

You need to buy yourself a set of calipers to check the cyls, the crankshaft, etc., for wear and to see what size bearings are needed for the rebuild.  If you don't have a the tools/don't know how to use them or feel the need to buy them, just take disassembled components to a machine shop.  The shop will check the crankshaft for wear/turn if needed, and send you home w/the correct bearings you need for the rebuild.  Check around w/your local auto shops to see who they recommend for machine work so you get a good one.

why did you order bearings when you didnt know the condition of the crankshaft??

if number 1 bearing is gone so is the crank,  it will HAVE to be turned to make it round again,  the rod bearing going bad will have made the crank journal egg shaped, having the crank turned at a  machine shop is the only way to fix that, and thus will require different rod bearings

on the passenger side of the block you'll find a allen head plug on each end of the block and on the bottom of the block these need to be removed (and kept somewhere safe) so the oil galleys are supper cleaned out when the block goes to the machine shop

carry your rods to the machine shop also so they can properly fit the wrist pin bushings to the piston wrist pins
