We got like 3 inches of snow.  Nothing compared to what Boulder and Denver got.  I want to try the snow wheeling but I'm still unlocked.  Here's a great place to go snow wheeling, my club went two weekends ago and had a blast!!!

You should get into some of that snow.  Your rig has come a long way in a short time. Have you thought about welding the rear until you find a locker that you like?  Weldings not a bad option, but it doesn't work to well on the street if you DD it.

You still got that supercharger hanging around.  By the looks of the pictures, it could be possible to adapt it to the 22RE as a fun project.

I ended up giving it back to the guy that let me borrow it.  He was going to make a Toyota Tough truck and use the SC in it!

I plan on running some snow sometime this winter!  My rig has come a long way but it's taken more time than I've wanted.  As soon as I sell my 85 4Runner parts truck, I should have enough cash for 5.29's and Aussies front and rear.  That would make the snow even better!

I have thought about welding the rear but haven't gotten around to it yet.

The goods show up!

Finally made some room in the garage and fit 2 cars in a 3 car garage  :D

Grinded on passenger sliders for several hours with wire wheel on my angle grinder and cordless drill.  Ended up buying some rust to primer spraypaint and hitting all the frame and scab plates with it.  Then I semi flat blacked over it.  It needs several more coats

Leaf springs

Extra tranny, top-shift case for duals, wider 86+ rear axle housing and my All Pro crossmember

Stack of 33" TSL's that I will probably run until I can afford some 36" Iroks

My new work area with messy work bench and storage shelving

Rusty driver side slider

Parts removed (rear bumper, spare tire carrier, mud flaps)

Rear end with stuff removed.  I'm working on the rear suspension first.

Driver side slider with some paint on it.

One of the rear springs was dropped in shipping and the bottom leaf was bent.  TG sent me a new one no charge.

4" front and rear.  I'm hoping the 4" springs in the rear won't be enough for the rear of the 4Runner.  Most people go with the 5" on 4Runners but I want to keep this thing low.  I don't mind trimming, I got a cordless sawzal for Christmas :)

It's going to look cool, are you goin to do a drivetrain lift? get that belly flat!!

I use to have a 1986 4 runner and that extra weight over a PU is awesome, only thing that would stop that thing was hanging up on the belly, ohh and the trees :hammerhead:

I wasn't planning on a drivetrain lift.  I should do it now but I'll save it for later when I get bored and cut off all the body and make it into a buggy :)

I was a little worries about not being able to free some of the suspension bolts and U bolts due to this 4Runner being 23 years old and stock suspension. So far so good. I have a Craftsman electric impact and it's freed several U bolts, shackle bolts, and spring bolts. Next fun step is to see if I can remove the bolts from the springs. Usually they rust up inside of the sleeve of the bushing.

I'm hoping to have the stock axle and stock suspension out this weekend. That would give me some time to wire wheel the frame of the surface rust, primer, and paint the frame and measure where the new spring and shackle hangers need to go.

Nice.

Yeah, the spring bolts are the worst.  I cut off the spring hangers with the bolts in them and the spring still attached.  I smacked them for a while with a BFH and ended up with no luck.  I had new hangers anyway.  An impact wrench might work better, though.  Good luck.

I've been spraying PB Blaster on every bolt I could get to for several months now :)

I've been soaking the steering knuckle bolts and cone washers hoping they will just pop right out when I start on the frontend.  Nothing ever works out real easy for me so here's hoping.

Well, previous owner must have had the rear suspension apart.  Everything came apart very easy minsus one bolt (we'll get to that later).  The PO didn't use any sort of metal sleeve in the bushings so everything came apart very easy.

What it looked like Saturday morning

Everything loose except one bolt, the front spring hanger bolt near the gas tank

My new toy from Christmas, it's got a new name, PROBLEM SOLVER  :D

I also removed the spare tire carrier.

All made possible by my heater (Christmas present last year)

I'm now working on a rear stretch and removing the LSPV (load sensing postioning valve).  It basically gives the rear brakes more braking power if it senses a heavier load in the rear.  I'm going to probably take it out and replace it with something like this

I will need to find brake fittings to go from 1/8 NPT to 1.0x10mm.  That's going to be the hard part.

Just to let you know, NPT is NOT D.O.T. legal.  those adj valves all are NPT, that I've seen, and I've never known it to be an issue in a race car, but it is not legal for street use.

I'm sure cops would never see it.  In some states, though, you have to have a modified vehicle fully inspected by DMV.

Wooooooooooo Hooooooooooooooo, I'm headed to Moab the last week of March (the week before Easter Jeep Safari)

I need to get a move on in order to get this thing somewhat ready for Moab.  It's my first time to Moab to 4wheel, I've been there twice to Mtn. Bike.

Here's my big question (I'm going to post this in the General section as well)

I won't have enough money for new tires, Longfields, dual cases (with 4.7 gears), and gears/lockers.  Gears/lockers are a given so that leaves me one more choice.  I will be running a set of 33" TSL's (if I don't buy tires) so keep that in mind.  What should I pick???  I was thinking Longfields but I'm thinking if I could go slow through everything that the 33's should hold up.   Any ideas??

longs is a good insureance policy so you can make it back home. evan if you are driving nice you could pop a birf and possibly kill a knuckle bearing or two. also i have never been to moab yet is that a good time to go. i heard it can get offly crouded some times.

edit: also if you get 4.7's you are esentually doubling your torque which could lead to broken birfs faster. you are on the right track if you get gears and lockers first. i have seen people wheel th piss out of there trucks on 33's and get away with it. with one execption, getting stuck on the stock t-case skid plate.

Nice man!  I might be out there at the same time!

As far as your choices before Moab, if it were me, I'd go gears/lockers and dual cases.  However, with dual cases, you have the added cost of new d-shafts, so that might push it out of you're budget :dunno:.  After that, Longs, and then after that tires.  I say tires last because when I was in Moab last year, it seemed like if you were locked and geared, you could go pretty much everywhere you wanted.  There's so much traction on the slickrock, that tires don't play a huge part.  Plus if you went bigger tires, you'd probably want to get longs right away, meaning no lockers/gears or dual cases.  Just my  :twocents:.
