which tires to get

I know this question has been asked time and again.  But ive got to ask it for myself.  Ill be getting new tires within a couple weeks and need to decide which ones will be best for me.  I live in an area that gets snow in the winter so i need something that will handle snowy roads without problems.  Mainly i wheel trails and mud but i plan to start on the rocks pretty soon.  I need a good all around tire that can handle DD... i dont realy care if the tire only gets 30k miles before its worn out... just as long as its a great tire while its in good shape.  I will be gettting 35x12.50s or 36x12.50s or possibly 36x13.50s... mounted on 15x8 rims.   I have been thinking about swamper SSRs, TSL radials, Irok radials, or Goodyear MTRs.  Not considering price which tire is going to do the best all around?  And will the 36's be too difficult to fit with a 5in lift and 1in body lift?  Thanks in advance for your comments and knowledge.

You are going to get all kinds of opinions
however I had great luck with the swamper SSR's.
I got about 30k on a set of those tires and then
sold them to a friend for $150.00
Next tire for me is the 35x10.50R15 SSR.

I've always been partial to the SS Bogger.

They ride like hell
They are rough
They make lots of road noise (single prop airplanes are quieter)
They don't ballance for crap
They get no latteral traction
They suck in the rain
They are really heavy

and they are great offroad!   At least where I go, which is mostly forrest with Tahoe clay.

i think the bogger is out of the question because i need something that will get me to and from school every day... and something that handles like crap in the rain isnt gonna cut it for me.... if it was a offroad only rig then hell ya id go with boggers... but its not so i need something that handles decently in all weather conditions on road... noise and rough ride dont bother me... but safety is a bit of an issue... thanks for your opinion though

Out of those choices Id go MTR's. My 37s handle great in all conditions ive been in. Now Ive heard that any of the Interco Radials just suck... WT on here told me he went 30K Miles on a set of TSLs and still had about 40% tread. Now thats pretty good. Ive got about 7K miles on my MTR's and theres still about 70-80% Tread, maybe more, maybe less...

I'm with MiniSimp on the Bogger thing.  But boggers are not good snow/rain tires from my experiences (I run 35x15x15 on my f-250).  I'd recommend the MT/R's because they're more street friendly, and they're great on rocks, and good in the rain.  I've been told they do decent in the mud, but you gotta choose if you wanna do more mud or rocks

If the streets over yonder are slippery a good quantity of the year I'd do the MTR's I have the TSL's and they suck on wet streets Ive skitted through intersections countless times

how well do MTRs do in the mud?  as much as id like to crawl on the rocks, mud is what ill be seeing more often... thanks for the info

only draw back is that they come in the sizes that you want.......but they look like the most agressive tires around

they are good tires... but i need something that is radial and will handle street use... so im pretty sure im going with either MTRs or SSR radials...

I was about to post the same question because I am in need of tires.  I am wanting to do the same sizes.  36's or 35's.  I need something that I can drive to the trails on, drive the trail, and then drive home.  I would love to get some IROKs and just run my current 33" BFG AT's around town.  The reality is that I will get lazy and end up leaving on the IROKS most of the time and wearing them out.  With that, I was looking at the MTR's, BFG MT KM's and the Pro Comp Mud Terrains.  I have heard good things about the Pro Comps.  Anyone care to comment?  My Runner is not a DD but I do enjoy driving it around on the weekend some.

a buddy of mine ran pro comps and they were awful. not just bad but awful.  they didn't grip anything, they were loud as hell on the road and the wore out super fast

i had 31x10.50 procomp mts on my 88 pickup.. i liked em and if my IFS werent worn out ... i think i could have gotten 30k outa them easily... but my IFS on that truck tends to eat tires.... so i guess MTRs are the way to go for my 4runner.. id still like to know how they do in the mud though?

I read a post on here that said just the opposite.  I guess everybody is going to have their own opinion.  You really don't see them that much on the trails though.  Could be something to that.  Maybe I will sack up and get the MTR's.  Mo money, mo money, mo money.....

Any east coast wheelers?  We see a lot of mud and wet rocks.  What do yall run?

my mtrs have done fine in the mud so far. but thats colorado mud. not so muddy

Even though I don' like em much, I'd steer you more towards the SSR's as you're gonna be doin more mud than anything.  The MT/R's have a smalller tread and don't grip as well as the SSR's in the mud.  I had procomps on my f-250 and I hated em, but then again I know folks that would swear by them :head_shake:

I like my BFG muds    but i have the older ones   I know they changed the  make up of them on the newwer ones  don't know how they are...

The swampers dont have good street manners for obvious reasons. The best all around tire that can tackle anything in my opinion is the MTR.
