turning over but wont start
« on: Aug 06, 2011, 05:13:57 PM »
It's got a strong arc from the coil wire but the from the cap to the spark plug wire has a weak arc is it the cap gone bad or the distributor gone bad?  :dunno:  :rivers:

I'd start by replacing the cap and rotor but are you checking for spark at the cap or at the end of the plug wire??  if at the end of the wire try another sp wire and see if its better. if so replace the wires.

The distributor being off a tooth would not effect how strong it sparks.  It will just change when it fires.
I think its either a bad coil wire or a faulty cap.

today tried it and nothing so for :pokinit: and giggles I sprayed a lil starter fluid in it it kinda came to life so it could be something to do wit the gas or the low flash point of the fluid did it I'm baffled

If the spark isnt hot enough it will have a hard time igniting gas, but starter fluid doesnt need much to fire.   I would avoid using starter fluid if poss.  Use chemtool carb cleaner.  Less likely to do damage to engine.
When you checked spark at the plugs what color was the arc ?  Should be blue.  If you can get another distributor,  try it and see if it fixes the issue.
