20r/22r Header Opinions.
« on: Mar 02, 2014, 09:06:58 AM »
Hey guys I'm building a 20r/22r.. Engine for my 84' Yota. Todd at engine builder recommended a Pacesetter Header. I've got a couple questions.

1. Is it worth the extra cost for a crawler build? My rig is going to be strictly offroad, and I'm going to be running propane.

2. They have a couple part numbers listed. Which one do I need? Part #72C1080 Is listed for 79-83 pickup,20r/22r w/ 5 speed, link here: http://pacesetterexhaust.com/79-83-toyota-p-u-coated-headers.aspx    Part #72C1188 is listed for 84-89 pickup, 20r,22r,22re,22rec  http://pacesetterexhaust.com/84-89-toyota-p-u-4runner-coated-headers-5-spd-only.aspx

The latter of the two part numbers (72C1188) is more expensive than the first one. The main difference I can see is it has mount in the pipe for an O2 censor (I think?) and the long pipe is straight.

Catalog link here: http://pacesetterexhaust.com/headers-for-trucks.aspx

Any opinions, or experience with headers would be much appreciated!
Thanks

headers are nice to add a little performance and to replace the ugly old stock manifolds. but they are expensive. the TrailGirl headers are little more affordable and are just as good as the pace setter or better I would think but am not sure. its just a header. If you can afford it, get one. it will look real nice on your project for sure.

Whatever header you get, make sure you spend the extra and make sure its coated, and has the 3/8" flange.  Anything less than that, they tend to warp and rust out.

Thorley Tri-Y is a really good one, has some on Jeg's for around $440 ceramic coated.  Free shipping.
