ok so my buddy offered me $3000 for my runner as is but w/o the winch. i really think im gonna do it because financially money is coming in slower. i would rather have a pickup again anyway, and it would cost me less to build an 85 than to sas this pig. so what do u think?

Didnt you just buy a bunch of the needed SAS parts for your runner? If you really want a truck I know where theres an 86 looks to be in good shape, you could probably get for pretty cheap.

Skinny_Pedal

i have gears, front springs and an axle. i can sell the axle again no problem. i have material to build shackles and a front hanger which i would use on the 85. all the small things ive been adding up and i think it would be eaier to sell my runner and build an 85

Sorry to thread jack, but don't they come out pretty close in $$?

needed for 85':
IFS box, mounted, frame strengthened in that area,
possibly upgrade stock front hanger, springs, x-over steering, ifs calipers and
landcruiser rotors etc..

needed for 86:
solid axle, oil pan, SAS kit, x-over,steering, etc...

They are pretty close in my opinion, but that really depends on how you get your parts. just my .02

I think that for the v6 trucks, there is a difference since the t-cases cost more.

i dont plan on upgrading the brakes right now...then i wouldnt have to run a wheel spacer to clear the wheel...i think, or have it match to my wider rearend. thanks for the inputs

I thought I was cutting the fat hog in the ass by starting my build with a straight axle truck, but spent a butt load to get what I have now. Like Fred pointed out it depends on where you get your parts and how far you take it. I know Whitey will get on here and say you can do it for free so basically its 6 in 1 hand half dozen in the other.

WHITE_TRASH

You dont need to use a spacer to clear the wheels when you use ifs calipers.  Im running the 94 calipers and they are the 4 big piston calipers, all I had to do was grind the fins down a bit and they clear just fine.  You would have the same clearance I do on your rig so you may as well get the rotors.

And Kyota yes you can do it for really cheap.  But 86 already knows that. ;)
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

The question is is it worth $3000 to you.  A trucks actule resale value can be less than the moral value iof the owner himself.  In other words screw reality and only take what its worth to you.

Skinny_Pedal

yes for $3200 i dont mind letting her go. its still a nice truck and my buddy will like
