With my 81 22r, header, 218k () miles, 37's and 5.29sDriving good.....18MPG in town and 20MPG at 65 on the freewayDriving "bad".....16-17 MPG in town and 17MPG at 75 on the freeway
My 82 22r w/ 30's and stock suspension, but with an old school camper and roof rack got 15 mpg at mostly highway miles on the last tank. I can really tell that camper/roof rack is back there. So I foresee a day when it will probably come off for gas savings sake. There seems to be a lot of wind drag when out on the highway, so I suspected it would be an issue. I hate to get rid of the camper, but I bought the 82 to be a DD, but it's not getting as good of mielage as my 97 K1500 w/ lift & 33's. So, it's either sell it, or squeeze out some better mileage.
Yeah, I pretty much know I'm gonna have to get rid of the camper. It's set up great, by the PO .. but it's not meant for DD duty, or for mileage. I hate to remove it, as I can get some use from it.. but the amount of use I'll get from it isn't worth the mileage I'll get. So, since it's a clean little 1st gen, I plan to get a tailgate and rear window (it's removed for a pass through boot) and put it back to an open bed PU. It has sheet metal screws holding the top on, and all around the rear window for the boot.. so I'll be refilling those and a repainting it once it's back to an open bed.
well i think i beat u all... 9 MPG!!! Its my DD and future tow vehicle. Dodge Ram 1500 5.9L V8. That thing is a gas hog but MAN can it tow!
