Original Post:

Ok, well, it took me 2.5 years, but i finally got my rig, she still needs a name.  Drove all the way up to Chico and back to get her.  These pics were taken i believe after i cleaned the interior.  Mike, this truck look familiar (different paint job).  Well i got it for $800, cant complain.  Its registered, just need to smog it (the big issue).  I cleaned out the bed and cab yesterday.  Today i changed all the fluids and got a key made for it.  replaced the lights in front so all my running lights work (dome still not working), and i put my column back together.  I drove it around a little.  Tranny is REALLY loose and the clutch feels like its about to go out.  its a 22r 5 spd.  gonna make it my daily driver and keep dodge as a tow/ DD (when i break the toy). This will be an ongoing project over the next few years, might as well get a small list started for what i need to do in the short run.

Cleaned out the back, nearly doubled my tool collection, found a couple neat things, will post pics after i install roll bar.  Thanks guys.

i got someone already who wants it, ll let you know if the sale goes through.  gonna swing by marlin today and get a new seat and seal and see if that fixes some of the slop.  also gonna go get bushings because my leafs have none.  After driving it yesterday,  need to diagnose the death wobble and fix that.  also, now it wont idle.  Was driving it home and it would die in idle.  so i got to mess with that.  not to mention im leaving to san diego for the police academy for exporers.  so there goes a week of my smog fixing time  :-\  anyone want ot redo my vaccume lines for me?  i have a schematic.

Well, got a job at fresno state police department.  So now i can have some money to throw into the beast.  I have about 95% of the vacuum lines fixed.  ii need to get a few things. 2 check valves and a plastic piece that screws into my motor.  So im on the way to getting it to pass smog.  Does anyone know if marlin will allow you to buy a lift kit at a  reduced price if you only need the front springs?

Nice lookin truck...Nice stereo too....take it from me, ALWAYS take your faceplate off.  These trucks are too easy to break into and its even easier in some cases to drive it off and strip it somewhere else.  Dont want to scare you or anything, just some advice from a fellow fresno resident who has been through it.  Lookin forward to the build!

O, so here is the problem in in.  I need to get this god forsaken truck to pass smog.  I'm pretty sure the motor aint gonna pass.  I can either rebuild this one, or get another 22r.

If i buy another 22r, i still dont know if that one will pass smog though.  any thoughts?  i need some help with this issue.

isnt there something about if you fail smog you have X many dollars to spend to try to fix the problem and if it still doesnt pass you get an exemption?  :dunno:  i have also heard that running midgrade or premium gas helps make cleaner emissions.  since you have your dodge as backup DD if you have to rebuild your 22r it wouldnt make much sense to buy another one.  just my  :twocents:

well, my dads a doctor so i cant apply for thzat economic hardships program, although my dad refuses to help me with the cost of repairs for my truck.  he doesnt really want me to have it in the first place.  Now, i could spend $450 at a smog repair shop, but id rather spen the money myself and get more for the bucks.  I'm thinking about just buying a used engine that i know doesnt burn oil, swap em out and also swap a rebuild tranny from marlin at the same time. THen rebuild my motor while its out of the truck so when it breaks i can put the rebuilt one in there.  but thats gonna run me about $1300.  so i might get this thing up and going by  hmm.  dec or jan.  i dont make that much at my job right now.  maybe 600-700 a month  :(  but its money.  So that what i think im gonna do.  My friends are saying sell the thing and buy a new truck.  But i like the truck too much to let it go.

no, not enough clearance  to get the piston out the bottom,  but  i meant  dude  needed to pull the head, then pull the pan,  to get the pistons out, he didnt have to pull the motor

:headscratch:   was that in this thread  :headscratch:

I'd rebuild the motor you got then convert it to propane! but i don't think that will pass smog.
Actually the propane conversion will burn cleaner. I believe it will pass smog or it will be exempt. Not sure  :headscratch:
