I was just curious to see what other Toyota trucks are getting as far as gas mileage.  I have an '80 4x4 with no engine mods and am getting 14-15 mpg on average.  I would think I would get better, considering it is a four cylinder and I drive fairly conservatively.  The engine is in great shape with 148K mi.

11 - 13 mpg on my 80  , you're doing better than me.......

Marlin

I 've owned my 80 L/B since Sep 83. It was stock when I brought it and it made 15 MPG. Now with a triple Marlin, 90' 22r with 20R head, smog legal with stock carb, header,5 sp trans, 529's, 35" tires--it makes 15 miles to the gallon :driving:
I had a smog legal Weber, it still got me 15 MPG.
Sounds like it likes 15 MPG :dunno:

A good day working, that's just sick :reg:

90 22re with 5speed, 5.29s, 37" tires, and some added weight........gets me about 13 mgp @ 70mph on the freeway...15mpg around town.

83 Yota 4x4, 5 sp, all stock, 30" tires. Consistant 20 mpg highway. Made a trip to Eagle Lake near Susanville just before the cold weather. Towed my alum Klamath boat and carried a weeks gear. Mileage never went below 16 in the mountains.
Not bad, not bad at all for a engine with 193,000 miles on it, and still does not burn oil.

kyle_22r

guess i'm about on par then.  i get about 15mpg on my '79

i figure, if my 20R gets 15mpg with stock gears and tires, why not put in some kind of bigger v6 that gets more bang for the buck?  i just wish there was an inexpensive toyota v6 on the market, might be a gm for me...

So if I understand this right, 14mpg and only about 215 miles on the tank is about right? Thats what I got with my first tank and I was shocked it was that low. I am use to 22mpg in my previous car. Just got to live with it, and spend more on gas.

Yup, 15 MPG is pretty good for a Carb 4cyl and maybe 17 MPG or so is pretty good for an EFI (non-turbo) 4cyl?

:headscratch: Thats kind of a shame cause my Dodge 5.2L was getting 13-14 MPG on the freeway pushing 35's with stock gears(3.55's) and a 5speed. I did have a cool air hooked up, oh and cant forget the flowmaster but thats it. I know I got crap around the city though cause I use lots of skinny pedal and I found that when 35's squeel they draw a lot of attention. :dunno: Thats why I couldnt afford it anymore cause most my driving was around town. $60 a week for gas hurts. I like the yota, $40 every week and a half.

Yea i'd have to guess around the 10-13 mpg range with an 82' SB 22R with 290k on the clock, 5.29's and 37" tires

I probably go... hmm.. 200 miles per tank, dunno how big the tank is though.. maybe 15 gallons?

Hmm, that would be an interesting question fo me. I don't drive it very much on the street and have an auxilary tank, but for the whole week at Shaver Lake I used about 25 gal. Most of the time was offroad in low so my mileage would have been real low.

My Camry gets about 35mpg.

Ramrod

I got 19 miles a gallon in my 83 now I have the same motor in my 86 and it get like 10 in town if I'm lucky and a bit more on the freeway.  It is so dead it uses like 2 quarts or more of oil for every tank of gas.

Rocksurfer

My Willys gets great mileage, or not, 0mpg. but it gets 0 miles so I guess that's good. Actually when I Totalled my Tercel I drove it as a DD for about 6 mos. and for what it is and what it has under the hood I got about 12mpg.

When I bought my 80 4by in 99 my brother played with the weber to pass smog and it got 17mpg average and a best of 19, but anybody runnin a 32/36 weber knows smogable doesn't mean drivable.  It's now adjusted more street friendly and gets 15mpg average, but it'll still get better if I stay out of the skinny pedal, and got over 16 last tank.  I just love the way it sounds when I get into it though.........

And at $1.20 a litre it makes me wanna buy a V8  :reg:
