Do not waste your time wrapping it. Will trap moisture and rot it out. Been there and done it. Regret it. Just put some good insulation under the carpet. As far as appearance on the header goes. Take a torch and heat the whole thing up cherry red and douse it with old atf. It gives it a blackish color and helps prevent rust.
