BUD84 - 1994 2WD -> 4WD - Last Build
« on: Feb 18, 2012, 09:45:29 PM »
Long, long time lurker on this forum.

I have a small 4WD shop in Queensland australia, this is a build thread on my hilux I built for my self 3 years ago, never *finished* it then business got way busy and ended up selling it as a unfinished project. Which is coming back to the shop for me to finish it for the customer :smack:.

Anyway, this was buit to be a DD rig for myself, heres the pics.

Heres the initial parts

Along with these parts a number of months prior I had bought a rusty 86 dual cab for the diffs and gear box, this rusty bucket gave up the gearbox and few other odds and ends the rest was pulled from my large collection of hilux parts.

The night I collected my TG parts from Express Links Depot the build begain. First thing was to pull off the alloy tray. Then I proceeded with the rear suspension.

Positioning the new rear hangers.

While I was busy working on the rear my wife got stuck into removing the front.

The end of the first night it looked like this.

The next night came around and it was time to do more work on the rear end. I got the diff housing ready for new perches and removed the factory rear shackle mounts and tacked on the new ones 2" back from standard as per the instructions.

More of the missus handy work.

The next night got stuck into it. Removed all unwanted factory mounts. Move the rear shackle mounts to just 1" reward of standard and full welded everything out.

A couple of nights later I got to work on it again, I got the rear shocks in.

Same night also saw the fuel tank and a heap of other odds and ends reinstalled.

The next afternoon saw the removal of 2WD IFS, much simpler than 4WD IFS to remove. Also got the front spring hanger on and the axle prepped.

The next day I got the shackle tubes in and the springs hung.

On the next evening I got the steering box in. I wish I didn't rush here and moved the box forward a little more. My drag link and tie rod dont touch but it is close.

Front shackle angle.

Just another over all shot.

Then I gave up on looking for 2nd hand tyres, bit the bullet and went to fourby's 305/70R16 MTZ's on 16x8 silver sunnys - 5 of

Then got the shock hoops shortened and fitted.

Few nights later.

Then rolled her outside.

I was given a TJM T15 bar for free (thanks RUFF) it got the grinder treatment and modified to fit the SAS x-member

After getting a few customers cars done I got back on to mine and removed the 2WD box.

Better shot with the bar fitted.

Reason I kept getting dragged off my own lux.

Interior of the lux.

With Boof's help got the G52 & R1FA up in there.

I then got the drive shaft in and started the x-member

Then came some dimple dies and a spare tyre mount I ended up removing.

From here on end there is a severe lack of pictures taken.

I had an incident with the garage post under the carport which stuffed my drivers door.

Then I got it re regoed and went for a wheel.

After this I then fitted a 05+ Hilux 63" WMS rear axle, wheel it once more, cut it up to start a truggy and next touched it again. And now its sold.
