Thanks, but I'm going to get another rope from Master-Pull for it.

Gotta keep the weight down for sure.  Great winch, but a beast.

Taken mine to Moab, Rubicon, Fordyce, etc. etc. and used the :pokinit: out of it. Works great.  :dunno: Those big name companies are selling you their name and the same stuff.

Which one are you using?  I have some interest in getting my dad a synthetic line for his receiver mounted which that he gets to move around by hand.

Looks like the real deal. Just an FYI it's best to use a nylon sleave over the first layer wrap on the winch drum to protect it from the heat of the winch brake. Dyneema has a very low melting point.

It is not pictured but the first bit of my rope came sleaved for this reason.

I think that steel rope has it's place. It is certainly way more abrasion resistant. I use a canvas mat to throw down over any rocks that my synthetic line may contact. I use synthetic because my father-in-law had a steel winch cable break and hit him in the face. It knocked him out and the log he was winching rolled out into traffic. His friends had to drive him to the hospital to get his face sewn back together. Synthetic doesn't store energy like steel does, and it can be patched in the field.

I definitely want to upgrade to synthetic. At the time, the steel cable made more sense to me.

With new information, the advances in synthetic rope layers and it becoming more and more affordable, I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for 150-200 feet of synthetic similar to what trail gear offers with another layer on top of it for durability. And being able to repair it easily in the field without 5 pairs of pliers, plus the fact that it stores a minimal amount of energy is amazing

Throw a jacket or something over steel cable and you'll be much safer.  I've done it with 5/8" cable stretched over 100 ft attempting to pull loose a 10,000 lb anchor and seen it snap.  It's amazing the difference just having some weight on the cable can make, and it doesn't take much.

Somebody should produce a weighted "abrasion" sleeve for steel cables to perform this function. I run a rope primarily because I wanted to cut down the weight on my front bumper and it almost completely mitigates the danger a associated with winching.

This serves both purposes of being the weight and it easily slides up and down the cable where you can position it on any rock or other surface that abrades.

I have always likes the idea of steel for work truck duty and a heat sink, but I would sure like to shave some weight.  The added safety is probably worth loosing the heat sink too.

Does that cylinder wall look funky or is it just some lint on it or something?
