I don't know if this is possible because I'm not sure if it's a hydraulic assist or full hydraulic (no direct connection to steering wheel)............

Reverse the hoses so when you turn left the truck goes right and vice versa.     That would tell you the problem part.

Not a bad plan. I don't know how difficult it would be to swap and bleed the system again.

I guess I don't understand what you are saying. All that would do is cause the ram to work against the steering box....

I think you're right.  The ram would have to be turned the opposite way too or would that not work either?

Sounds like my idea won't work.

I didn't know if you were ram only or ram assist..........

Assist. All ideas are welcome and appreciated. Thank you.

Is there a diagram somewhere on how the steering is supposed to work?

So it would be possible to swap the hoses L/R and the ram (outside cylinder moves instead of rod)......

There would need to be enough slack in the hose so they could move with the outer cylinder.

If you then have problem with left turns,   the problem is the ram.

What size ram do you have? What fluid as well?

I believe the ram extends when turning left?? If so there will be less piston area when retracting (turning right). This could be the issue you're feeling when only turning right.
Time to go wheelin!

Its like steering without power steering resistance. Something is wrong, and the overheating confirms it.

That 1 inch shaft is pretty big I think most psc Rams are 3/4 inch since it needs less fluid to push. Wonder if it is a volume thing

Go get a t fitting and pressure gauge. Put it on each line at the cylinder and see what youe pressure is. If there is a variance then obviously you have an issue upstairs at rhe pump or box. I would be hard pressed to call the cylinder bad. Also, this line you got from another dude. Is it the same size as the one you purchased?

The problem is the gauge will not measure volume. Volume at pressure is key. I would get some plugs/caps and isolate the ram. Then test the box, this will tell you if it is the box or a flow/volume/ram issue

Another idea is call PSC and ask. This is what they do and they should be able to help.
If you see it, its for sale.

first off...

your ram size is fine, i would make sure all your fittings and hoses are the size i have on this picture..

i did hours of endless research on the best way to get reliable steering.. wether its TG or PSC or Surplus Center parts, you need start with this diagram.

you could have a number of issues..
1. you either have an issue with your tapping on your box - isolate your steering  by pulling your lines and cap them at the fittings at your box.
2. you can hook up your lines backwards  ( IF the ram hoses are connected backwards, the steering box and ram will fight each other and you will not be able to control the
position of the wheels. If you feel major binding in the steering, check to see that the hoses are connected correctly.)  - easy as swapping

3. and if that doesn't work you have a bad seal in your ram, i had a bad seal in my 8in ram.. they are super easy to goober up..

Well just called and cancelled my interior cage. Need to hold that money in reserve in case I need to replace my steering box.

I don't think you'll regret it.

Moab, even if you chose to take the more cautious approach to the obstacles, is worth making the maximum effort to go.

I don't know anything about ram steering and I'm sure the problem is a bigger issue but the diagram says "do not use atf" and then I saw you were using valvoline atf. does it really matter?

Plenty of people running atf. Toyota gear boxes require it or else they take a dump.

have you tried pulling the ram and capping the box yet

What is the delivery timeframe so that I don't have to start holding my breath too soon?

how are they rolling, are they smooth, im thinking of running this in my tires, last year I lost a few weights at mcr, had a slight vibration. this sounds like the solution
