3/16" Steel Bar.

It fit between the Lock Shaft.  Only took about 3 wacks with a hammer.

Now I just gotta figure out how to remove the Inner Axle Seals.  They look like Eco or other HD Seal.  Not sure if that makes it more difficult than stockers.  Tried notching with screw driver, hasn't worked.  Might need to go buy a sharp tip hooked pry bar that will fit in the hole.

Been watching vids and it seems like they easily pop out, these ones aren't.

Last obstacle before everything is fully disassembled, ready to be cleaned and re installed.

Getting close.

I'm restoring/beefing my front axle right now too. I also have everything cleaned and painted and ready to go back together also. I put Eco seals in mine last time I had it apart. I also noticed they don't come out very easy. I haven't worked at it very hard yet. I was thinking about just cutting a seal removal tool out of sheet metal. Let me know if you get it figured out before I do.

Oooooh! That would work good. I have a couple different sizes of cats paws. Thanks for the tip.

I have that same seal puller Oops.  I remember several years ago, when WillyMammoth tore his hand up with one of those.  So, its a deceptively evil tool.  He even posted up the gore picts too!!

I just mangled it with a screw driver and pulled it out.  only a few small knicks as a result.  gonna smooth them out before reinstall.

BTW, just waiting for paint to dry and races to chill in freezer.

When reinstalling what parts should I make sure to use anti-seize, loctite or a dab of grease.

I know about Loctite on Studs and I have all bearings and birfields packed.  I know to put a little extra in the knuckle surrounding the bearing inside for water.

Anything else that would be ideal to do?

Alright, next PITA...

Long Shaft Install.

I got the short shaft in fine.  But the long shaft won't go all the way in.

I am able to press down slightly to line up the shaft, then align the flat spots on the birf.

But probably about 1.5" from getting all the way in.

If somebody is turning the diff for me will i eventually feel a slight grinding/rubbing where it is trying to line up?  Can they just turn the short shaft also instead of the diff?

Yep. I just did mine tonight and had to turn the diff to get the splines to line up. You can also turn the short side to get them to line up.

Just had a baby today.

Prob wont get to the long shaft for a few days.  Really hoping it goes quick so that's one less thing to occupy my mind.

Finally got a break day.  Went fishing only one keeper a 22" Red Fish (yummy).  And a bunch of garbage...toad fish, sheephead fish, ladyfish and salt water catfish.

Then step-dad who was in town helped me fidget with the driveshaft to get the long shaft installed

Got the spindles installed.

*****BTW, I used the 2nd 4Crawler Bearing Preload option (42lb, rotate 5 times L/R, Loosen, rotate cycle, 42lb, rotate cycle, loosen, rotate cycle, 21lb final tighten.  I used the pull scale to test bearing preload.  Driver 4lb, Passenger 7lb.  Guide says between 3-8lb is fine.  Can I get an opinion on this?*****

Hopefully will get the hubs, tie rod and wheels on for test drive tomorrow.

Lets see how tired I am though  :crossed: :crossed: :crossed:
