Steering box relocation help.
« on: Mar 27, 2014, 07:22:42 AM »
I need to move my steering box forward 3-4 inches in my 93 runner and would like to see what some others have done before I start chopping too much of my core support. Doesn't look like it's going to be too tuff, but I'd like to look at some pretty pictures before I start.

Sooooo.... whatcha got? Picks? Links? Sell it and buy a jeep?

Only one guy here has moved their steering box? I find that hard to believe....

I'm looking more for what people have done with the core support. Moving the steering box is the easy part.

Just start trimming.  I was looking at my steering box the other day, and mine in stock location is really close to the body mount already.  Is Sean (Mr4x42u) helping you any?  Cause he's done several through the years.  Got Kyle's number still?

what springs are you running? with lesser arched springs like ruf i allways use a flat pitman arm. with the flat arm you position the box a little different and no need for messing with the support unless you move the axle way, way forward.

Using Sky's "crawler springs" (not installed yet). Figured I'd turn this thread from a question thread to a how to thread, since there doesn't seem to be many pictures of this.

Back side of the core support trimmed. Also had to cut the bottom tab off the fan shroud.

Front still needs more trimming. The body mount will be in the way when I ditch the body lift (came on the runner when I bought it *facepalm*).

Decided to go all out with the steering box mount and beef up the frame a bit while I'm at it. Should give me something solid to glue the shock hoops to. Waiting to get the right springs before we drill and mount the steering box.

All welded up. Did a similar plate to the passenger side too.
