« on: Jan 21, 2007, 01:58:13 AM »
i have been seeing alot of rigs with relocated steering boxes but not so many good ideas on how its done it looks fairly easy. Is it an absolute must or is it ok in stock location talking ifs box marlin springs and hy steer six stud knuckles any good pics on drilling holes mounting locations and radiator support cutting and restructuring would be great thanks

Relocating your steering box is not a must unless you are moving your axle foward to the point that your tierod is foward of your draglink. Of course there are exceptions, If your axle compresses and the shackle moves your axle reaward to the point that the pitman arm cleares the tierod.  Most often moving the steering box foward to the radiator support is enough to work. Tilting the box so as to move the pitman arm up towards the frame is also a good idea.

very good idea, i didn't take that into account when i did mine, now when my sus compresses, my pit arm runs into my spring alignment pins.

dosn't marlin sell two different style pitman arms a strait one and one that is bent so the bent one should work for moving the draglink up or should the box still be clocked upwards also marlin springs move the axle forward 1 1/2 inch right so thats probably all i would go forward with the springs/axle. unless axle relocator plates are ok to run in the front??then may also do that for a little more forward offset

general rule of thumb is to just move it as far forward as you can and tilt it up as much as possible aligning the steering shaft and box input best you can while pitman still clears the frame. Liike gittinit said unless you've moved your axle forward, just moving the box up as far as you can without cutting works fine.

i wanna do it right from the start cause i really hate doing things over twice. Is it ok to run axle relocation plates on the front axle to move it forward another inch or whatever it is along with marlin springs and moving the box up to the radiator support and clocking it upward should work good and should i run the strait pitman arm or the bent one

If you use a straight arm, then less tilt will be required. Otherwise it shouldn't matter.
