Battery relocation?
« on: Mar 28, 2016, 07:27:29 PM »
What are you 3RZ swap guys doing for a battery tray, when you swap the battery to the driver side?
The battery tray on my first gen was pretty bad and there was a rust hole under it, so I cut the tray off and patched the hole.  Now, with the battery tray gone, I'm trying to come up with a clean way to mount the battery. I'm entertaining the idea of moving the battery to the bed and putting my arb compressor where the battery was, but for now I would prefer to just put it back where it was, If I can find a good way to go about it.

jimbo74, these are the kinds of pics I find when I search, problem is I cant see whats going on under the battery.  I've cut off the battery tray, so now half the battery is not being supported and it just wants to fall out of the truck. I assume guys are running into the same problem when putting the battery  on the driver side, like in your pics, because there is no battery tray over there. I'll try and post a picture of what I'm talking about, later today. Thanks

I got mine from Jimmys 4x4.its a nice tray and only $38.you can bolt it down if you want but I welded mine to the frame when I dovetailed my rig with a 22re.they are made for the optima size batteries which is a pretty standard size

I cant believe it but I found a 2wd first gen with a good tray at the junk yard. I drilled out the spot welds and brought it home.   If I put the battery back under the hood, I'll just weld in the tray and build a box. All the pre built boxes Ive seen seem to be  for optima or oddessy batterys, not sure if they will work wth my interstate lead acid battery.

Im still curious how  pic #2 was done, looks very  clean/factory .
