whats that? I'm not worried about doing this like a pro fab guy. those welds are fine, plenty strong. I'm just an amateur. But this truck should be solid when I am done.

yeah there are a million ways to skin a cat but i think your cat is skinned. i welded the bungs in my last project the same way with one tons and 42's and hydro assist and never had a problem.

HogCanyonHopper

Thanks Ryan. I just want o move this project along and definitely didn't want to spend too much time over-welding those threaded bungs. I decided to t to finish weldin one of them in w/o the heim threaded in. Bad idea. It got really tight on the threads when I went to put it back in. Its all coming together though.

hate to say it but,

I told you so....hahaha

what threads are the ones you have that is tight? if it is not the left hand one i have taps up to 1" fine and course so might be able to run a tap through it to clean it up.

HogCanyonHopper

it was a left and I was thinking about what you told me when I was doing it. Thats why I threaded them in all the way with lots of grease on them. The one that got tight is fine. No losses  I am grateful for that tip Ryan, if I hadn't thought about it I probably would have effed all  them up  :_oops:

I have two trail gear adapters its ok dude they work good but we all kno what the best brand is.
98 Tacoma ex cab, Garrett T3 turbo 7psi, w56, 2.28 duals, ceramic sprung puck clutch, toyota solid axle, Tacoma rear axle w/ e-locker, plated frame front and rear, fuel tank raised with custom armored cradle, 1 ton steering 35" general grabbers wheeler/DD built from stock http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=95652.msg1066733#msg1066733

Crunchy Taco

Before I made a full blown cradle formy taco gas tank I got some thin flat bar and was guna make a nice strap for the back part of the tank and welds cross bar above it to suck I tight against it would actually be a good permanent way to build a mount. It's pretty much how they have the mounted from the factory.

I know its ok, thats why I put the smilies for all the people that cringe at the thought of using TG products. Trust me, I would have loved to bought an adapter from Marlin, but they seem to have a real hard time keeping certain products in stock, like adapters and high steer arms. Theres no way I am going to put a project on pause when I am on a roll and looking forward to finishing the project so I can go wheel with my son.

Man I rattle canned my last wheeler and with good prep it turned out pretty good and durable too. I used a satin finish though cause I did not want it shiny for hunting.

HogCanyonHopper

Haven't put much thought into the cab yet as far as paint goes. I'll see what Reed says. Lots to do still. Need to figure out a x member, exhaust, brake lines, etc.  Theres a pic of the cab a few posts up and you can see the whole truck on the first page.

yeah I have been looking at that. the front will swing back a bit when it flexes but I still only have the front hanger tacked on so i can move it back if I need to and get a little more clearance there.

Budget Friendly auto painting company ;)
You seem pretty capable, auto paint is not hard.  As Ryan said above, prep is key.  Rattle cans can look pretty good if proper prep work is done.  True automotive paint/guns look that much better though in my opinion   :beerchug:

Looks great Joe, your son is very lucky indeed.
