I'm considering going round...

You got that right. The earth is round, the sun is round, and are round!

Not sure if this appeals to you, but a guy in our local TLCA club made this himself mimicking a FJ C using our VisionX round headlights. He is not finished with it but brought it to the club meeting anyway. Not sure what his plans are for the side marker light integration... Maybe a wider design spacing the lights out more could be a way to fill in or blend with the square body lines, but the difficulty is keeping the round FJ C design and the square body lines. Not sure if that is gonna be possible..

So... These ridiculously expensive headlights, that I would never purchase for this rig, were given to me and I'm considering going round... Can anyone point me in the direction of a build thread were this has previously been done nicely??? I'm kinda a picky SOB so not looking for pics of the 2nd gens with partial front grills, missing headlight trims and what not. Looking for pics of a nicely trimmed out conversion to round???

If it can be done clean then you are the most likely person to achieve it. Good luck!

I wish I could contribute with an idea for going round, but with the skills I see on your build I have full confidence we'll get to see how it's done.  You need a bigger die for that die punch... 

I just have to say you have a beautiful build.  My wife says I have an OCD problem, but this build clearly demonstrates I'm just a hack that likes things clean.  Amazing welds, well thought out fab work.  Impressive.  I hope to see it up close.

Are those headlights, if so do they have high/low beams

The LED headlights are made by Truck-Lite and are DOT legit! Pricey though! 7" sealed units with glass lens, high & low beam, 1.3 amp draw per unit with both high & low beam on at the same time & very bright! Didn't really have a desire to go to round lights but a good friend hooked me up and I'd like to use them... Sometimes I feel I'm just spinning my wheels with a project like this  I don't really ever use the headlights that are on it now!

Save em for the trophy truck build...

Upon a slight investigation, all I can find in that style truck lite is in a 24v. Are those 24v lights. Idk why I'm so hung up on them they just look awesome.

The round Trucklites Are able work with either 12v or 24v. They call them dual voltage. Look in the description here.

Those are, but if you find the exact model that he has, the all have a 24v only tag on the ban unless I've missed something?

Me too..one thing that attracted me to the Truck Lites was the low amp draw and 3 year warranty, which came in handy.  Two years into the warranty my passenger side light was flickering like crazy.  Traced the issue to some moisture in the housing.  It took some time to get a response from truck light but they sent a new pair of lights free of charge and paid for return shipping on the bad set.

I totally missed the trim piece. What about finding first gen trim pieces and mounts and modding them to fit? Or maybe fj60 parts?

If I do go round on this 2nd gen body I will most likely fab my own grill all the way across and incorporate the new round lights. However.... I am seriously considering going F-Toy at this point! With the amount of work I see in the near future to build the cage the way I want it, I am starting to think that going F-Toy may be a better all around alternative... Not 100% sold on it just yet, but it's definitely leaning that way... Anyone have any Thoughts? Or maybe advise?

We too like the look of the full body pickup, but are experiencing some issues and starting to think that going F-Toy may be the next logical step. Portions of the cab and fenders are ripping apart at the factory spot welds. Even tearing the sheet metal in a couple of spots. The cage I want to built will stiffen the entire frame & cab similar to an F-Toy chassis but the weight is really getting to be the issue here. Full bodied & approx same amount of tube as an F-Toy is a lot of extra weight...

I think an F-Toy chassis would actually be the cheaper & much lighter route and achieve our goals with only a couple of undesired side effects. Minimal protection from the elements can be dealt with but we have real concerns with keeping it registered & street legal here in CA. It has been necessary multiple times to drive this rig on the street for various reasons and we like the idea of keeping this option available to us. I have to imagine that even with all the required lights, plates, mud flaps, etc. we would still get undesired attention from law enforcement ultimately leading to a green sticker only rig. This does not work for our needs... I'm soooooo confused???

Either way, nothing will happen this summer! We've gots some wheelin to do!!!

If you desire to drive the rig on the blacktop in Ca give up the idea of an F-toy. I like the idea of a buggy but I enjoy being able to escape the elements and drive my rig on the streets.
