I think it could be done street legal.... Other concerns are that you must have a floorboard rail (like a Samurai or Jeep) such that if you have a tennis ball on your floor mats and you make a corner, the ball cannot roll out of the cab. I forget but I think the law actually states a height, like a minimum 2" high rail. (This is an issue with me as I enjoy driving to the trail with no doors -- I violate this vehicle code.) Also, are we required to have a windshield? Or can we be like the red baron and wear safety goggles?

I have seen some trucks turned in to Truggys that have all original smog equipment and are fully registered and street going. I've seen one where the only section of frame remaining was from between the two lower cab mounts (like about 3 or 4 feet of frame). The rest was all tubed out.

As much as I like to dislike the California government, we are fortunate that we can modify our suspension (aftermarket springs are not D.O.T. approved), we can put on fancy tube bumpers (aftermarket tube bumpers are not D.O.T. approved), we can run modified systems (High Steer is not D.O.T. approved), we can run non-D.O.T. approved beadlocks (my Allieds are not legal yet I run them), we can run U-Bolt flip kits (not D.O.T. approved), we can run automatic or selectable lockers (not D.O.T. approved), we can run wheel spacers (not D.O.T. approved), .....the list goes on and on. Of course I'll argue that these components are stronger than and more reliable than their stock D.O.T. counterparts, and in our 21 year history we've never had nor heard of some rogue Crawler run out of control and plow into a Taco Bell or something like that. And no offense but there are some real hill billy creations out there and still no repetitive injuries to pedestrians or private property to be seen.

I think I'm rambling but I hope my point is being made. I've spoken to customers in Australia and the UK and a few other places and it's rough. Some places cannot exceed even STOCK tire height and they will pull you over just to measure the height of your headlights off the pavement. :sheerterror:

Unnecessary attention from law enforcement? That is a good concern. But if your truck is smog legal and you're not doing burnouts and running red lights I can't see it being an issue. Heck, Marlin has been pulled over in the Crawler Truck at least half a dozen times just so the officer can ask him tech advice and see his truck move in 1st gear triple low range. At least in my experience cops are gear heads too and love seeing custom (read legitimate) work

You can get away with pretty much anythin here.... As long as its safe and passes the annual ministry inspection. They keep saying you cant run this and that but they cant police it. Vendors are not allowed to sell non E marked tyres but whos to police it? If you ship in a set of boggers for personal use , your good to go...
I have a feeling that slowly but surely the EU will sink its claws in and the byways will be closed and anything non factory will be banned.... If you want to see proper restriction you need to travel into Europe.... Germany for example..

I know the weather Is great out west and yall have rocks and deserts but I will have to say it's almost worth it for me to stay here and have hardly any restrictions on what we can drive. The yellow truck on 54" boggers and full hydro. I drove on the road tagged and insured. Got to love when the man pulls you over just to look at it and say he likes it.
This was in a gas station parking lot nest to my dodge mind you those are 37" km2s on the dodge...

Not necessarily just stating that laws vary by state and some are easier to get away with things in. The image was merely to bring a littlw more realistic view to the statement.

OCD - where did you find the red bag under your power tank/
it looks like an updated version of a combat lifesaver bag i carried in the army.
it would be great for a first aid kit
