Topic: help with windshield wipers

I need a little help. A while back the intermittent setting on my windshield wipers stopped working (80 toy). Today I installed another switch and same thing. I opend up the  original switch and every thing looks fine so i cleaned the contacs an reinstalled it. Now im wondering is there anything else that could be causing this? the manual shows a relay but if that was bad wouldnt i have no wipers at all? anyone know whats up?

I'd look for a small box or something that has a timer in it, which controls the timing for the intermittent option.  Mainly the switch is just a switch telling which direction the signal should go.
