solid axle 87 4runner spring hanger help.
« on: Aug 14, 2012, 09:42:31 AM »
I'm trying to get my shackle angle right and I put the spring hanger 3/4" in front of the frame tube but my shackles are way off need to come back. Should I move it back to where the hanger is flush? Any help would be great thank you.

It's either do that or move your shackle mount forward

Depend what spring you got if u have 5 inch spring move hanger 3/4 forward due to the longer spring but if you have 4 or 3 inch spring move spring hanger flush

I have never moved my spring hanger forward, I have always mounted them flush with the stock front x-member. I have ran both 4 and 5 inch springs.

The inch of lift in the springs doesnt matter. The length does. Almost all Aftermarket springs dont need the hanger moved forward at all. Its really only RUF that require that, and even then, depending on the angle your prefer, its not needed. Pictures would help alot.

Put it flush. Putting the rear shackles hanger in the center is what some companies say to do we recommend putting it as far forward as you in inside the body mount.
As mentioned about the lift size doesn't matter there is only about a 1in difference in length depending on lift height (between most manufactures) but pictures would really help

I also dont have my engine in it right now I know that might help a little with the angle.

Also remember that if you use new springs, they will settle out too.  So, you will gain some angle later on.

As far as I know I'm running AP 5 inch spring up front I mounted front hanger flush with 5 inch shackle after 2 week of driving my spring started to settle down and shackle starts to hit body mount I call AP they told me that if I have 5 inch spring front hanger need to move 3/4 forward due to longer spring and I did what I was told remount hanger and everything was perfect.
