im guessing you're gonna chop that up and make a truggy instead?

Yeah. I need to be street legal and this is gonna get me there. Here's an idea of how it might look.

i would say that "might" is a good way to put it!  you are going to end up alot taller than that on a leaf spring build.  It looks cool in the pic, but achieving a ride hieght that low is going to be near impossible

I'm going to build a frame just for this. It won't be as low as it is in the pic, but I'm shooting for 6' to the roof. The stock frame just won't let me get where I want. That pic is just an example of the dove nose.

what if he runs SUA?

I was basing that statement off of the fact that i thought he was putting this body on the frame that he was already building, which is sprung over.  but if he is building his own frame, than i think that shooting for the goal of 6ft to the roof is do-able

My builds sometimes have multiple starts, so they can be hard to follow. I've also got 2 steering fj60 axles with 4.88s and Detroits I'd like to consider putting under this. We'll just have to wait and see.

Started some half doors.

And one of my fj60 steering axles.

do both 60 steering axles!  I really want to build a small lightweight buggy using 60 axles front and rear.  actually what i really wanted to do was build two steering axles using ruffstuff housings, 80 series 9.5 thirds, 80 series knuckle balls, hellfire fab highsteer knuckles and 80 series longfields.  that would be a pretty sick setup with full hydro steering front and rear.  that project will hopefully come along down the road when my business is doing well and i'm a millionaire :hahaha:

there are quite a few older builds on mud with people that have tried to do the 60 series steering axles front and rear.. i also got caught up in it too and would still love to do it being that i have 3 front 60 series axles lying around but in reality, they dont last..  everyone that has gone down that road gets rid of the rear steer axle after the 4th, 5th and 6 th birf fail.. or the hubs or whatever commonly goes.. not even going with longs help because they end up prematurely wearing do to the nature of the chromo stuff..  I guess if you are running a trail only truck you will get the same life expectancy as if you were to run the longs in a 4x4 front axle application but in the end yo are better off exploring other options..

as far as your springs go, there are lots of really low sprung under trucks out there..  the only issue you will have is that you wont see the articulation out of the springs as you will out of something else..   actually lets back up..  people that try to run really low sprung under trucks tend to outboard their springs and this is what kills the articulation..  inboarding the back would be easy but the front wouldnt work..  i know a couple of cruisers that have outboarded springs that were able to keep their frame height down to about 24-26 inches on 40 inch tires which isnt too bad..

i would love to see someone get a truck that low as indicated in your pic above..  that would be cool..  i just dont know how you would do it with a full cab without cutting into the floor..
the never ending build...

I always wondered about the strength of the 60 axle in the rear.  i just recently became a member of the mud board, so im not familiar with any of the builds on there.  do you happen to remember any of the names of the builds using those axles?

I just saw the other day that you joined..  like most forums it has become a bit stale but there are still some really neat builds there.. i am surprised that you would join being that you dont like "most" cruiser builds..

that being said, here is one rear steer buggy..   the guy that originally owned it babied it everywhere so there was no breakage..  it was quite well setup..    the guy he sold it to ended up breaking the birfs shortly after and ended up putting dana's under it which was too bad..   ireally enjoy all toyota builds...  my bookmarks are a mess..  i will try to find the other 3 rear steer builds that I have saved... ooops, my memory fails me...this one came from Pirate...

Now I'm thinking one link front and rear with air shocks. The custom frame and fj60 steering are the priority. I just really want to build this, even if it fails. Just for fun.

thanks for the link.  mandm builds some nice rigs, its amazing those axles held up so well.  he wasnt afraid to use the skinny pedal in those videos!  but then again his tires werent getting any traction worth a crap.  I bet if he had a set of stickies on it, the axles would have broken much sooner.

One link is when you weld a wishbone directly to your axle using one large joint at the point of the wishbone and frame. You also need a pan hard bar to control side to side movement. It's really simple and cheap and allows any ride height and no axle wrap. I figure this build is going to be out of the box anyway, might as well get crazy with it.

A lot of v-8 Rockwell buggies are running it with good luck. Some only using a 1.25" heim. I'd use a 3" ballistic joint with a 1" bolt. As long as the wishbone is long and parallel to the ground it's supposed to work well.

Decided to move forward without using any body. All tubing.

And here is a shot of it next to my 1980 on 34" swampers. It's lower than the red truck.

Thanks. So far, I've only bought tubing. Everything else is from my old black runner. I'll have to throw down on a Gotpropane kit and some 30 spline axles, but that's it. I scored 3 more propane tanks for $75 and a real nice set of Camry bucket seats
For $40.

Well, since I live, eat, sleep, breathe buggies and Toyota crawlers I'm sure there's a little bit of a lot of designs all thrown into this. And I haven't even started on the front yet. It's all been freestyle, no plans. Just a tape measure and my memory. Weather is looking perfect for building this weekend.
