Anyone know the difference between the two? I am looking at the v6 version with 5.29's and arb's for the front and rear. It will go in a 4cyl axle on an 84 4runner. I know this is a marlin board, but just looking for an honest answer. I'm looking at any quality/feature differences between the two. Any input or opinions would be greatly appreciated considering it isn't a cheap purchase. Thanks and I look forward to any feedback.

Marlins are made with high quality Japanese KOYO bearings and Yukon gears and the other is made with cheap no name (literally nothing printed on the bearing boxes) bearings and low buck/quality gears.

Put it this way trail gear didnt make there name being known for building super high quality parts Marlin built his business around quality & knows how to do the job right trail gear doesnt have this quality or high level of knowledge / experience when building your product. Marlin =  :driving: top quality / Trail gear =  :smack: parts you wish you would have bought from marlin. Run marlin product or break parts. thats just my  :twocents:

Another observation for you:  On high pinion ARB 8" diffs, I have seen first hand one TG built HP ARB without the right oil slinger installed, and on the two Marlin built hp ARBs that I have, both have the appropriate oilslinger.  It might be debated that a front HP diff that doesn't get used a lot will not die from a lackl of properly slung oil, but I want and like mine to be right and well oiled the way Toyota intended regardless of how much or little use they get.

Not sure if this observation of the TG oilslinger error is representative of all their built diffs, or just a single instance oversight, but I have far fewer doubts about Marlin quality and care.

Anyway, I have had diffs built by Marlin, Sean at River City Differentials, and two other local Bay Area shops, and so far i have had no problems whatsoever with Marlin's or Sean's stuff.  The two local shops were bad experiences so especially now I wholeheartedly recommend Marlin (and Sean) even if other places maybe a bit cheaper.  Do yourself a favor and go with a Marlin ARB first.

I think I will be. They are actually a little cheaper than TG's assembled diffs with arbs installed. Not sure why. Price wasn't the deciding factor at all because when you are talking about 3k, a few bucks doesn't make a difference.

Solid spacers? I don't think it was mentioned in the ad.

Marlin Crawler differentials are always built using the highest quality parts available: Yukon Gears, Toyota OEM KOYO Japanese bearings (whenever applicable), our heavy duty EcoSeal pinion seal, our heavy duty 5-27 pinion flange, and our heavy duty solid pinion spacer.
I pulled that off webpage for ya, Seeya on the trails!!

Marlin uses real Toyota housings, TG uses their aftermarket made for them housing.

Just a little word about the "Yukon gears"  Yukon DOES NOT  cut their own gears. You may get gears etched with YG in the box or you may get richmonds or other brand.
