The F150s are stronger. If you get ranger springs youll need to double up the main leaf because they arent very strong so youd need to get 1 set of rangers and then get a set of just the main leafs of a ranger spring so you can cut off the eyes on both sides and then put them directly under the main leaf so they are stronger

OK so I am really unsure on what I want to do.... Heres my two choices...

since my 22r is a turd with 230K miles, its getting really really worn out. It has no power. It lost a lot of power from when I got it and I can never get the vacuum lines straight. Also the tranny in my truck is starting to shift hard and its been grinding in 2nd and 3rd on occasion. SO I am either going to do one of these:

22r, COMPLETE rebuild (but id use the LCE stage 2 cam I already have), EFI (I have the harness and everything all ready to go in, just havent had the time), and a supercharger (Know someone selling one thats smog legal in CA for 400 dollars). and probably a w56 tranny. Gas milage should be somewhere around 14 or so id assume.

OR

4.3L Vortec V6, 4l60e or 700r4 tranny, but with this id need new mounts/adapter to toy case, new radiator(already have an electric fan but would need the cool thing Big Mike has) new exhaust and maybe new drive lines (or at least rear one) and also id need to go through the wiring harness once more which sucks. But with this itd be about 220+ HP (from what I understand). Gas milage should be about 14 with this

I know people ALWAYS put these kind of topics up all the time but my motor is just really pissing me off. It was doing fine but now its terrible. 4K and it has 0 power. Used to be able to pull I-80 going up by donner summit around 65 (before i put the stage 2 cam in even) and now 55 is way hard even after the cam. Ive never checked the valves and I know the vacuum lines are correct. Never checked the compression either but Ill bet its bad, when I had the head off the cylinder walls looked good but dont know what the compression was like.

SO WHAT SHOULD I DO?

why not swap to a 22re or a newer tacoma 4cyl.

I would be rebuilding my 22r and putting on my Fuel Injection from a 22re that is pretty much really close to going on but I dont want to put it on yet since my motor is so turdish.

I am also now lookin at the 3rz because they actually are pretty cheap (relatively). Either way its going to cost a lot, take some time and put my truck out for a while which all 3 suck.

yeah that sucks. i would say just keep it as simple as possible. less down time and more wheeling

i say option one.  go for the rebuild, efi, supercharger, with the W56.  as you said you already have some of the stuff, and you dont have to change mounts.  just seems like less down time and more wheeling to me.  good luck with whichever  :beerchug:

If you swap a 4.3L in then you might as well swap your axles also... Those 529s will be toast. Stick with the 22re idea or do a 3rz swap....

i honestly would stay away from the 22re with the supercharger. there was a guy in in the pacific nw running my identical setup 9.5:1 compression and he ran the supercharger.....detonation at its finest.

or is it a stock 22re and you'd just slap the cam in there?  the supercharger sounds fun just want to get your compression ratio down. if it is affordable i say go for it. but in the ling run the 4.3 is the way to go.

im really not much for help ::)

You dont want a supercharger unless you plan on green stickering it.  I have a complete 91' 22RE that was running and passed smog when pulled, I would still rebuild it though.  I plan on removing the supercharger on mine, just have not had the time.  I still don't have my front axle back together yet.  :)

TURBO said he wants to get a 22-spline birfield after he saw your 27-spline break.

What were you doing? I just installed 27-splines in my new front end, but I don't break birfs.

Nice dent you hoser

Cool action pics, and nice PS mount  It looks just like mine!!

So how do you rate Fordice? Harder than Rubicon?

Fordyce is way harder the the Con.  the water crossings are well worth it by themselves.  that some sick breakage chris.  thats pretty much how my treated longfield broke.

I was in the perfect spot for a birf to break. I was goin into my camp and couldnt really steer (ps pump leaks so i had no fluid) I was going downhill and off a ledge and off the ledge my tires went full passenger so i put it in reverse, double low, and started backing up and i was only at around 1200 rpm and i started goin and then my tires started to slip and then POP! It was pretty sweet, so i was goin in 2wd hi back into camp which SUCKED and my clutch hated me. It took out the housing and it made a burr where the axle seal goes so after 2 axle seals bending tring to get them in, i got a diegrinder in there and cleaned it up and made it smooth and on the third try we got the axle seal in. And i had to take apart and put back together my front end 3 times, it sucked.

I need to do a lot of work before The roundup and i actually dont think ill make it due to lack of money and so much broken crap i need to take care of.

Fordyce is harder. I went from my camp above winch hill 2 to meadow lake and back down by myself with no aid at all.

It sure would have been nice to have my rear locker in, but money doesnt allow it to be in :(

when i broke my treated longfield it wasn't at one spot.  it just started popping all of a suddon going down the trail.  i kept it in untill i got back home.  it chewed up the seal and it's housing.  but i also used a die grinder to fix it.  it also chewed up the inside of the bell but i didn't even bother with that.

Umm i failed to read the instructions and my rear case is a top shift 86-87 or whatever it is behind a W56 and i didnt cut off that extra one inch youre supposed to so everytime i do that, it pops out of gear and have to take off the shifter to get it back, it sucks.

Sounds like you loaded it up, maybe butted it up against a rock it didn't want to climb and kinda twisted it up and put an extreme load on it. You don't have to be a hard wheeler to break stuff. Those low gears put a heavy load on everything.

Ummm yeah thats exactly what happened is it was under an extreme load. Uphill, locker, 37s, dual cases and a heavy load in the bed at full turn to the passenger. It wasnt against a rock or anything, the rear driver tire was but no other was on a rock. Oh wellim getting a new one. Sending the broken one out probably on wednesday.

OK so I hate my truck... I broke another rear housing :( I dont know how long its been broken but I just noticed it last Friday before I took it for a drive to my cabin on a windy road  :ack: The crack goes up and over from the weld, to the otherside and then along that weld across the spring perch.

Mike, "take note" he still has U blots holding his axle in, you don't. :ack:

LB, put a strap around the bottom of the axle tube and weld it to the bracket and tube. After rewelding it of corse.
