:shocking:  What!!  that is the only one then.  Look at all that custom work on your rig.  Good work too.

Thanks, Josh!  The housing would be tempting...   But I already have an IFS rear end in my truck and was thinking just to modify it for the E-locker. I do already have the E-locker, just need to get the gears for it. I also have a V6 3rd for the front and need the gears and locker for it too.  :disturbed:

Read into making a ifs rear for a e locker.  The shafts are shorter then a e locker axle and it can and has cause the engagement gear in the locker to break in 2.   Its not worth the risk.   There is a huge thread on pirate about it.   its why I suggested the e locker rear.  For the price its well worth it imo esp for a dual purpose rig.

That's the first Ive ever heard of that.  :headscratch:  Do you have the link to Pirate for that article? I'd like to read it.  8)

Interesting read...just seems there's a lot of confusion about mixed parts and measurments...not to mention, personal experiences in either case. Certainly not enough instances of breakage to convince me that spline engagement is the real issue there.

I'm just not so sure I believe it's the spline engagement that is the real cause for the breakage that has been experienced by that OP. I would also deduct from that thread that if there were far more instances of breakage with that component that it would or should be more commonly known seeing how it is a popular conversion. Wouldn't you ask..."why is that thread only 3 pages long if it was that common of a problem?"

Looking at that failure, I would say there was a machining issue with the side gear because you notice how it broke evenly from the corner of the gear at the base of the thrust surface and then inward at a taper? That tells me that there may not have been any or enough radiused relief in the corner of those two surfaces which would create a stress riser and the starting point for failure. Spline engagement issues usually result in shaft breakage or stripped out splines in the total area of engagement...I didn't see any spline damage, did you?  :headscratch:

Oh well, back to the spirit of this thread! Carry on!

Do you even use brakes? :gap:
My fancy cutting brakes don't work with drums (drum brakes are poor in static conditions)

Do you have it planned out yet?  will you do an Emergency brake?  (not the parking break).   I really want to convert but there isn't anything out there about a suitable Emergency brake.

The Monte's and Eldos do have it.  But I haven't seen any body actually route the cable yet.  The direction of pull is different than that of the yota cable.

I have been studying this one for a few months now, and I don't want to do the conversion without a functioning emergency brake.

Unless you are strictly going for the "cool factor" of having rear discs...i just used V6 rear drums. They're bigger and work just fine. No issues with parking brake mods.  :gap:
