37 look good on your 4runner, did you drive it to the roundup?

Thanks for the compliment.  Your's and TacoRunner's rigs were some of my main inspiration.

Still getting used to the look of 37's...going to get some new fenders so they're not trimmed out so much.

Ya its a touchy subject. I was with him. We got to the top of the 5 and decided after an hours worth of inspection to turn back.

I almost bought a tow rig that weekend I was so bummed out.  That would have gone against the whole theme of the build (drive to and from the trail).

Rear third pulled/inspected - looks good
Replaced output bearing/seal on t-case (easy/free w/out pulling cases)

To Do:
Balance driveshaft
Get new rear axle

Hopefully it was just the output bearing/seal, but I'll find out soon enough.

so why did you ddecide to go back down to 37's?

Not a fan of the Xterrains I had, they wore quickly and chunked bad.  Got a set of 37's for $250 I couldn't pass up.

Ideally I want a 39 in tire...most likely the 38.5 maddog radials (since i drive to the trail).  I wish pitbull made a 39" rocker radial!

yeah I drove my 4runner down to koh last year on 40's it was a long trip wheeled the :pokinit: out of it and drove it home to Sonoma.  37's are better on the road forsure

Sounds like a hell of a trip to not have a tow rig...right on!

TacoRunner

Next year we'll go out together. It will be the 3RZ 4Runner and linked club. Then we can wear Hollywood style sunglasses at night and think really highly of our selves.  :rofl2:

Thanks!  Your taco is coming together nicely...the front end looks like a ton of work, but came out sick!

When I got the truck it was already descently built (single stock case, 5.29's, arbs, 22re, minitruck axle):

smacaulay

Hunting for a FF FJ80 rear open diff near socal if anyone has a line on one.

Plan is to cut the ends off and send them to Dan at ruffstuff to put on one of his new fancy housings.  Rear disc, e-brake, 5.29 9.5 arb'd third, full float...christmas may come early this year :crossed:

Any recomendations for rear custom chromo shafts?  Diamond, pig, other?

John Doe

I went with Diamond (of course)  and had an issue with the shafts not being perfectly straight. Sadly it took a while to figure that out but when I told Brian he paid for shipping back to CO and straightened them out for no charge.

That sucks...no business is perfect.  Good to hear he took care of it.  Mind PM'ing me what you paid for the set (thinking of ordering 3 for better pricing/spare).

smacaulay

Wheelbase will be 63.5" to match the front.

Friend built the cage.  Didn't want a bar across the windshield, so he came up with this (1/4" plate grabs a lot of thick sheetmetal and seems plenty strong):

I agree, hate windshield bars.

Tcase output bearing/seal was fried from out of balance driveshaft.  New seal/bearing and balanced shaft...all seems well.  Got the speedo working with the marlin vss, and will be throwing some more tube at it this week.

Ruffstuff rear housing on hold for now...funds will still go to ruffstuff fj80 style for the new project that should be in the driveway tomorrow.

smacaulay

New project...3rz single cab taco.  G/f wants a new daily driver.

Plans:
Hellfire Knuckles/Arms
RuffStuff driver's drop housing - 8" third, FJ80 outers
RUF
4.88's
35"-37"

smacaulay

Wont start the build for a couple months...parts collecting time.  Should have some updated pics of the 4runner soon.
