Love the runner, you say you're going to build an 8" front with 80 outers, do you have a source for the outers or just pulling them off another housing? I'm researching building 80 series but thought about starting with a Ruffstuff housing and a 9.5" diff for the front if i could find 80 knuckles & hubs

I think your best way would be to get a whole 80 front end then source the 9.5 3rd separately. What knuckles did you plan on running, stock or the new HellFire fab knuckles with Hy-steer arms?

Hellfire, that's why I'm wondering if there was a source for the knuckles balls since the only parts I'd be using off a stock housing would be those and the hubs and spindles

Unfortunately right now the only option is to source an 80 front and cut the knuckle balls off (possibly new options in the future :crossed:).  Hopefully you can find a bent housing to cut up and save you some coin.  You could also find a wrecked or cheap cruiser and sell me the full float rear , then part the rest out.

I will be building the exact same axle for the front of my 4runner this year (ruffstuff housing, 9.5, ARB, longs, 80 outers, hellfire knuckles)...so keep me posted on your progress and let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

You'll probably get to it before me as I still have a motor swap to do befor I start anything else so I'll be watching to see what you do. I look forward to seeing how your axle comes together

nice build!

Thanks!

Not much new to report since I've been out of town for work quite a bit.  When I get back in a few weeks should have the tire carrier finished up.

Are you starting over, or just doing another?

Was going to build the taco into a new dd, but have had some life changes and plans are on hold for now.  Just going to wheel the 4runner for a bit and have some fun.

Very clean rig. Nicely done.

Bought the truck with trail gear rear chromos.  Didn't really take much to twist one...will run stockers from now on until I figure out what direction I want to go next.

awesome 4runner! i think it looked better with the 40s but xterrains are garbage, i think those maddogs would look good on there for sure

Moved up to Seattle w/out a garage, so 4runner will be stuck in norcal until I get a place to keep it.  Got the spare tire carrier finished up, power steering cooler added, and rear fenders sealed up.

smacaulay

Also picked up an 03 Tacoma.  Added a 3" lift, 33's, TG sliders and some other goodies....ready for some mild WA wheeling!

Still have the 87, still in Cali covered in dust.

I'm building a shop up in Snohomish and will ship it up once completed.

In the meantime I found a low mileage stock 5spd 3rz 3rd gen.  Now on 35's w/ 4.88's and a yukon zip rear.  I have another set of hellfire knuckles and an itch to leaf the front.  Only problem is figuring out which one to sell and which one to turbo.
