Go to this url and you will see a complete right up on how to do the swap. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=775780

Your engine has to be an 83 or newer engine to do the efi swap.  The 79-82 heads do not have the holes to mount the lower intake plenum.
If it is 83 or newer then your going to need a full efi wiring harness, efi tank and fuel lines, complete intake manifold and a lot of time.
To do the wiring swap takes some time since your gonna need to remove a lot of your dash to get the old one out and new one in.  If your truck is a 2nd gen then the gauge cluster will work.  If its a 1st gen then you need to modify the harness to hook up to the stock cluster.
All in all if your mechanically inclined then you can do it in a few days work.
Just make sure you get a complete wiring harness.
One other option to efi swap is to go propane.  Its better then efi and a lot more simple.

is that for taking out the old 22r and dropping in a 22re or for converting a 22r to fuel injection?

What I explained was for you just swapping the intakes and wiring harness.  If your engine still runs good, you dont need a efi block.  I personally would rather have a 83 and before 22R since it has a dual row timing chain and domed pistons.  They have a little more torque then the flat top pistons in a efi motor.  If you want more info feel free to call me.  925-270-5314 Josh

by your avatar you have a 2ng gen. i would either buy a donor rig or find a mostly complete truck or 4runner at the junkyard and take everything engine related (efi fuel tank, lines, evap stuff, coil/ignitor, wiring harness(engine and body harness) the entire engine even. then swap it into your 2nd gen.

my truck is a first gen. you can pretty much do the same thing although the gauge clusters, find a place to mount the computer that sort of thing. with the 2nd gens everything has a place because some came with the 22re.
