You can bolt a 7M straight upto the G52/W56 box with the factory bellhousing which can come from a 5M or 7M along with the flywheel clutch assembly

Turbo, non turbo. Same bellhousing and clutch. (turbo may have larger spring in pressure plate)

Hi. I'm the proud owner of an underpowered '83 4x4 p/u and am thinking of an engine up grade. V-6 is on the top of my list. Question.
Are there adapters available for V-6 to 83 Toyo tranny/trans?

I do a lot of off-roading, mud, snow, not much in the way of rock crawling, and a little light weight towing.

Much thanks for any help you can give.

toyota swaps are pretty common anymore - so are chevy, ford etc..

Pick up an advanced adapters catalog and read it and go from there

I just talked to a guy who has a supra turbo but he says it needs intake bypass lines.  I don't know what those are.  Does anybody know what they are and how expensive a problem that is.  Thnx,

We make an adapter plate, part number V6T-4CX, that converts the V6 transmission to the bolt pattern for the older gear driven transfercases.
You can see some pictures of a Tacom/T100/4Runner, 3.0L or 3.4L (transfercase from a 3.4L) at http://www.marlincrawler.com/tacoma/tacoma.html

have a look at this instead of the 7M.. its a 2JZ-GE from a later Supra/Soarer, fits quite well :)

Hey supra, thats impressive, any more pics?

According to my sources, the 2JZ-GE is a 10.0:1 compression, 3.0L, ~225HP/6000 and ~220TQ/4000 and features the new computer controlled cam gear technology. So hows it run?!

Yea I thought about it, but I got everything I needed out of this car for $500.

The whole swap was under $1000. untill I blew the head gasket.

BTW here is a few more pics of it in the back yard after the trip to Rubithon.

Notice the duct tape fan shroud. I plan to clean that all up, and get a fresh air intake setup so it can breath cooler air. But hot air is better than water!

Haven't got much more, got a call from a mate who said this thing turned up at his workshop and I should drop round and have a look. Its running the A340 auto and full loom from a Soarer which means the gear change computer is all wired.

Its also got full traction control which the owner disconnected because the trucks mainly in the mud. I wonder how the traction control would work rockcrawling ??

I'm hiding down under in New Zealand and with the huge amount of jap imports here the motor, auto, loom etc would have cost about US$750 ( NZ$1400 ), not bad for 200+ hp and it all just bolts in  ;D

I just completed a Chevy 350 5.7L into my 82' Toyota pu chassis that has been stretched 33" and converted to and registered as a 72' FJ40 Land Cruiser.  The engines power is great for towing my tag-along travel trailer!  But I'm having trouble keeping a transmission working in it.  I've blown the Toyota G series (I believe) transmission three times now. :smack:

What I'm currently trying to figure out now is what Chevy transmission to put in that will still have 4X4 capability.  I don't really care weather the transfer case is Toyota or not but would like to find a GM transmission that could be adapted to the Toyota to save the expense of buying another transfer case.

I still have the original 82' 5-speed in the yard that I had to replace with a newer one, in order to adapt to the Chevy engine.  I think the current 5-speed is 83' to 86' G Series but, am not completely sure because there are no numbers on the tranny to ID it. :dunno:

In researching transmission options so far I could use the Toyota R150 or R151 and retain my current transfer case.  Or, I've found at TTC: TREMEC Transmission, a couple of other options in both 5 and 6 speeds.  The problem with these trannys is I haven't been able to call the company to see what options I have with the transfer cases.

I see NP435 mentioned threw out this board.  Are these good transmissions to use with a Chevy 350?

Anyone have any ideas for me?  I've already wasted over $2000 in rebuilds on this tranny.  It's going to get replaced with something....

:psss: Thanks for the input Brandon!  But I want to stick with a 5 or 6 speed manual and keep my 4x4 capibility.

I am looking for any information on years/models to find a NV4500 that I could use with my Toyota geardrive T-case.  Anyone have any info that would  :help:?

Everyone talks bout doing chevy V8 and V6,  5.0, and the supra swap.  but what about a 318 mopar.  I have access to one for $300.   First off anyone do a swap like this?  Does anyone make adapters to go from the 318 to the toyota tranny?  Or other options with trannies, but i want to use the toy t-case.

V6 swaps -  I've had both Buick 3.8L and now have  GM 4.3L.  Like the 4.3 waaaaaay better.  Torque and power to spare.  Used NWOR motor mounts (poor fit with early frame).  AA bell housing, '85 EFI trans, 4.11 gears.  4.3 is out of a '92 T10(4wd S10) requires no smog pump.  Wiring is from HELL!!  But is do-able with much thought and patience.  AA has headers but are not CA smog legal and do not fit with manual trans, interferes with clutch fork and hose.  Used factory Astro Van headers as they are tubular and easy to modify for fit.  Passenger side required a left and a right to be cut up to make one that fit.  Flywheel is from an '82? Camero w/305.  I run an '82 toy diesel radiator.  It's a three core with large tanks and drops right in w/out big $.  Sorry no pix.  MCR 3 was GREAT!

apparently the old 4M sumps and pickup will work as well. I have to change the pickup/pump and sump because I've stuffed a set of bottom end bearings climbing steep hills with full throttle and with the sump bowl at the front the pump sometimes sucks some air !!

have a look at this instead of the 7M.. its a 2JZ-GE from a later Supra/Soarer, fits quite well :)

Hummmn. Use the pickup and entire oil pan (sump)? What about the early 5M-E sump, is it the same as the 5M-GE?

I know where a 4M is for cheap. Problem is not much more power than a 22R, but it is a six.... I think the EFI 5M-E is a better bet. Will the 5M-GE flywheel and clutch assy work on a 4M?

Did a search and found this thread. Wealth of info. Got a few Q's though.
Am going to build a race truck ssooo.
I would like to build up a ''88ish tow rig to tow the '88 race truck. Thought about the 3.4L like is in my (read as "my wifes") '04 pre-runner. I saw the http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/projects/basham_4runner/ Way cool, lots of work but hey why did we all start wrenchin?

Questions:
Will the 3.4L bolt up to the W56?
Is there a better way to get the power and dependibility I need for a tow rig?
Beat to fit, Paint to match
Need a bigger hammer and more paint.

Did 75 Toyota (Downey 4X4 conversion Kit)
Doing 88 Toyota 4X4 (Desert race truck)
Next 81 Toyota 4x4 (drive train upgrade)

a 3.4 will not bolt up to a W56.  It will bolt up to an R150F, or an R151F using a R150F bellhousing.
