Does it leak from the top at all. ???
I would like to know how you cut it and made it fit back together up there. :unhappy:

I want to do that sometime :)

It rained a lot on that trip, for some reason when I park downhill the rain makes its way though the seal but otherwise it doesn't (Probably because the water just sits in the gutter at the seal)

hey toy machine.
i almost put the chevy 4.3 in my toy but changed my mind because i didn't think it was worth it to me.

so i just built my 22r.  i ported the head myself, ran one piece stainless oversized valves, weber 33b carb with an offy intake, nwor header(nice header!), and ignition advance recurve spring in the distributor,  also a snyeider cam, and an electric fan(took the stock fan off)  i am very pleased with it.  it gets on the freeway a whole lot better.  it still gets good gas mileage with 33's around 22.   i haven't needed more power on the trails yet.  (i do have 4:1 transfer case gears though.)
the whole rebuild cost me under 3,000 for everything.  that's everything.
it fit.
it took me two days to have it running again (after i had all parts of course)

i am using the stock radiator(had it rodded out) and it passes smog.

mission acomplished.

Good Deal :)  Yeah, i haven't decided what to do yet.  LCEngineering does have some pretty cool kits.  I'm not going to worry about it though for a couiple months,  I would love to put a Weber on though now if you know anyone that has one. ??? ::)

Paul Elbisser is in CA right now with his Runner.  Phil Pasciak and I just took them on Fordyce Thur and Friday, Paul is a wheeling fool!

The Supra swap looks sweet and fit in there with some modification (I believe he did a body lift to help).  He is running three fans to cool that bad boy.

Sorry, no pix of engine compartment.  If I see him again, I'll try to snap one.

take care...

Ahh yes the 7MGTE swap.... some day. As far as Ive heard or seen a 327 chev fits so sweetly with a little lifting.  As far as instructions somewhere I have a book from advanced on swapping momo's in toys, Covers everything from Mopar To Buick, I almost thought of trying to strap The 360 Mopar 4bbl Ive got into my 86 but soon realized that just by thinking of it I was In over My head.   Now I think more and more towards a Supra Swap But Marlin Told me horror stories about what people have done to stick big momo's into little toy's.

The GM 4.3L V6... Well I have a 91 S-10 Blazer 4x4 With one. It goes quick and it's decent on the gas Amazingly. Of the ones I've seen in Toy's i.e. The one on this thread and the one at Marlin's It seems that the Model 220 EFI system is preffered over the direct port. The model 220 is essentially a Carb base with the neccesary vac. hook ups and a set of Massive foggers up top. The 4.3 is very upgradeable. Cam, Injection sys, Rockers (The whole Valve train is basicly upgradeable)  Pistons, Rods, I have yet to see stroker kits for it, Exhaust, Intake, Chips, Etc, Etc, Etc...  It does pretty good from the factory Mine w 69K mi on it will still beat a 99 eclipse on 41.  :moon: Well okay I guess I'm through making a fool of myself

I have got the 5M-GE in an 84 4runner and I think the 7M-GTE is very similar in dimensions to the 5M

The prob that I have come across is the oil pickup is at the front of the engine which creates a problem for cross over steering other wise its pretty simple to fit ( have done 8 X 5M conversions for various toys )

Heh, don't know why marlin is saying stuff about that, I spoke to marlin about it a couple years ago before I did mine.  Was asking him tranny and transfer questions.  Marlin had never heard of anybody doing this kind of swap before.

Since then, only a few people have attempted to do the swap, I myself have done two and starting on a 3rd.  It is not that hard, and no horror stories unless you want to call too much power horror  .  So, marlin is a great guy and all, but he has no hard evidence to back up that statement.

By the way I give thanks to Marlin for the great info way back when, so far I have not broken any tranferscases, in fact, so far, that is the only thing I havn't broken.

OK here is the deal with my 7M Supra engine. There is 1/2" clearance at the brake booster. 1/2 at the Supra radiator to the crank. I put a small dent in the firewall to fit the EGR.

My cooling issues is do to me cutting corners and running Pepboys fans. Also trying to kep the AC. Air looses velocity after it goes through the condensor. A new condensor, and aluminum radiator will do the trick. Then I will get Black Magic or some hotrod fans and it will be fine. The only problems I was having was on long pulls.

I raised the engine 1 1/2" to clear the custom PS pump mount. this created a problem with the bellhousing so I raised the body 3" instead of the 1 1/2" I had. I also lifter the trans and fuel tank.

The 5M motor mount brakets fit on the 7M block.  You will need to drill a hole for the centering pin on the 22R motor mount and it will bolt on and line up.

Head bolts should be torqued to 72# not the 52# Toyota wants. The harness is easy to deal with, and the RPM range is the same as the 22RE, so no need to re-gear.

Here are a few pics for you to ponder. the swap can be done with less than $1000.  Unless you want to run AC.  :talking:

How close the PS pump is

In the truck before the radiator is in.

I got more, just not scanned yet. Here is something I did when I was playing with  MS word for web building.

looks clean! Hey, what MC is that? I need a new one.. (for the jeep) I wonder if you can have too much brake? It will be on toyota axles, the one I have now is a single reservoir style. What did ya do about the rear disks for braking?

it a 73' chevy.  it's the one for the big brakes.  Basically the cheapest MS they have $19.99 :D  it might be a little too much for the Toy axles, but i'm not sure?  Ask Scott at Rockstomper.  He helped me set up my junk.

You are not going to complete an engine swap in a weekend or even a week (assuming your retired as I am) no matter what engine you select!

Everything that has been posted on this thread is good info and food for thought!  The "Thought" is the important part.  You have to set your game plan, research parts availability, cooling, motor mounts, transmission mounts and wiring before your even start on the project.  And, YES YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO FABRICATE SOMETHING BEFORE THE PROJECT IS COMPLETED!

I just completed a CHEVY 350 5.7L into my '82 chassis that is now registered as a '72 Land Cruiser.  I expected to be able to do this swap in about two weeks.  Two weeks turned into a month even with my machining, welding, fabricating, machanical, electrical and desert race car building experiance.

The end result is great!  Chevy 5.7L, Advanced Adapted to Toy 5-speed/xfer case; all the power you'll ever need with the gear selection to spread the power where ever you want to use it!  However I'm still working through transmission problems in figuring out if a Toy tranny can handle 200 more HP.

Do you homework and research ahead of time and plan on doing some fabricating and wiring.  It'll take you longer than you plan but, good luck and we will all help where we can once you decide what you want.

Here is  a pic of my 82 with a 5mge in it.  I was able to use crossover steering by changing to a 7m oilpump and pan.  I don't run a body lift and I ended up lowering the motor about 2" to clear the hood.  The rad is from a  Volkswagen Scirocco and cools it perfectly.

Actually it's a 7mge pump, the turbo version is a little different.  I did end up having to make an adapter to fit the pump though, it doesn't just bolt right up.  I have a pic somewhere  :dunno:  I'll see if I can find it.  If I were to do it again I'd hold out for a 7mge motor over the 5m, more power and no hassles with the oilpan.
I went highsteer using Sky-Mfg arms (the ones Marlin used to sell).  I was able to lower my motor a few inches and still had lots of room.  When I put the hydro assist ram on there things started to get a little tight though  ;D

apparently the old 4M sumps and pickup will work as well. I have to change the pickup/pump and sump because I've stuffed a set of bottom end bearings climbing steep hills with full throttle and with the sump bowl at the front the pump sometimes sucks some air !!

have a look at this instead of the 7M.. its a 2JZ-GE from a later Supra/Soarer, fits quite well :)

Another part i'm having trouble understanding is the clutch/tranny.  I'm looking at doing the turbo but i need a bellhousing from a manual non-turbo right?  And can i use the flywheel and clutch assembly from the turbo or not?
