22r - 22re differences...
« on: Feb 04, 2011, 01:23:07 PM »
Yes, I searched but have had no luck so...

I picked up an '86 standard cab 4wd truck with a bad engine.  I found a 2wd with a bad tranny but it is EFI.  Can I strip the EFI engine down to the block and head and reinstall the carbed engine goods or are there any major differences?

I'm not sure of the differences, but if I had a truck w/ a bad 22R and a truck with a good 22RE, I'd just do the whole EFI swap and ditch the carb setup.  :twocents:

EFI truck has already been raped of too many bit and pieces...   Besides, long term, if I get my way it will be going to propane within the year so no need to do all that work.  I will be selling off the asorted EFI components since I don't need them.

yes that will work as long as the 22r motor was not manufactured before august 84 it doesnt have the dome style pistons anything after that are flat and can be interchanged between carb and efi but in your case you are carbing an already factory efi motor so there is nothing to worry about just put your intake and sensors in the block and your good to go

Thanks for the input guys!

Started raping the donor truck and should have the motor out of it tomorrow.  Extra set of doors will come in handy for half doors.  Spare radiator too among other things...
