Sorta surprised no one has commented on the newest Top Gear America episode....  Had a decent looking 3rd gen pickup that was used as the "punishment" if any of there trucks didnt make it lol... was seen as a disgrace to drive it...

thought it was pretty funny.... looks like Alaska would be an awesome place to wheel....

Those are some huge welds!

Yah i was definitely wanting to know the stats on that yota lol.
For wheeling in alaska, most people have huge wheelbases and giant tires, i went up there a few summers ago and saw some of the biggest off road rigs i've ever seen

Meh..... it's a TV show, entertainment for the masses. Of course they trash talked the Toyota, the episode was 'toughest American truck'. But they paid Toyota a high compliment by picking it as their rescue rig -- one they knew would be fully capable and bulletproof -- for when their American trucks failed. I would have enjoyed seeing more of the Toyota on the trails, but that wasn't the theme of that episode.

I was gonna post a thread but figured someone would eventually. It was a pretty funny episode, notice how the Toyota technically was the back up. I was waiting for all of them to be cruising in the toyota at the end. Toyota was the backup because they knew it would take everything and not break down, i'll take that as a complement.

The bashing they did on the whoopdy whoops was absolutely hilarious, Tanners hood hahahaha...  you know the only reason why any of the other rig's broke down is because they don't know how to drive.

I watch both BBC top gear and american, i prefer BBC but love both for different reason's.

British humor is just so damn funny.

Season finale on sunday.

Edit: btw they already did a toyota episode and now the trucks in the main studio because of all the abuse it took and kept on ticking. that was a classic episode.

I would say 99.9% of the non toyota community over here doesnt even know what a Hilux is LOL...

you know the only reason why any of the other rig's broke down is because they don't know how to drive.

no doubt about that, as with most other "auto" shows... they are all pavement pounders...

and yea.. I dont prefer Top gear America to The BBC version, its like nissan trying to copy toyota, they look to be the same, but are miles apart... just tried too hard....

Then again, last week Foust loved the Raptor, for being big and bold... but way back when Clarkson drove the lightning, he hated it for the same reasons..... Its all about the location... they do things a bit differant over the pond....

Now.  If we could just get some of those little diesel cars they hate so much over there....

i like the show and theToyota as a rescue truck sums it all up i used to be a hater but when my bronco was broken (quite often) and the toys were going by it was obvious that the toys rocked. but in my defense when i was growing up all the tools cruised massive lifted Toyotas with no front drive line . glad that's over with

I watched the first few minutes of the episode last night and plan to finish it up tonight.  It's obvious that the intent of the show was entertainment, in general, and the fact that they were "bashing" on the import Toyota was obviously nothing more than contrived American bravado.  They don't have an issue, from what I've seen, with non-American so I doubt they really have a bais toward import trucks.

I was surprised at the quality of the Dodge that they obtained for $3,000, but the world is full of moron's so I don't doubt that someone didn't know it's value or it has some major flaw that wasn't mentioned or identified during the episode.  Maybe a salvage title after a nasty wreck.

I would also say that the Toyota would be expected to complete the run as it was brought along for "official" support and as a punishment.  It's possible that it wasn't even along for the majority of the shoot, but who knows.  I would expect that they new it was mechanically sound as compared to the three trucks that were obtained sight unseen other than the obvious addition of the roll cages and seat belts.  Someone other than the three drivers had looked the trucks over at some point before the show.

The episode was about humor and entertainment and the punishment for riding in the Toyota was intended with the same seriousness of the Calvin pissing stickers.  I would suspect that they even called it a Hilux to avoid having the uninformed people of America realizing that they were bashing a Tacoma.

Ya know, I personally kinda liked the way the portrayed the Toyota as the 'wild and untamed'.  Every time they mentioned it and did a quick camera shot at it, they had it 'growling' and jerking forward as though it was ready to pounce.  Almost every mention of it referred to it as a predator waiting to jump on the weakest member of the herd who inevitably would fall behind.
