How did you get that bead back on or did you swap it for a spare?

thebrick

I guess it looked worse than it was. Just pulled the wheel off, hooked it up to the compressor and it popped back on

rolldog

we were never able to pop the bead back on, the valve stem that connect to the rim came off don't know how. lucky we had a spare and just slip it on and drove home...

I'm thinking about going up this Saturday.  Some snow earlier this week should make for a fun time.

I take one of these with me,only I didn't pay their outrageous price. I bought an air tank from Harbor Freight and the fittings from a hardware store and put it together, works great. You need to remember that the air needs to go into the opening between the tire and wheel,I've got a face full of snow not paying attention to that before.

Im the one who told Bryce about the ranger. We went up saturday afternoon to find everyone leaving and sayin a ranger said it was closed and will be giving tickets to anyone on trail sunday. We only did some night wheeling and left sunday morning so I dont know if he ever came back.

I am also a prospecting member for clovis independent and last night was our meeting. We confirmed with the club that it is gonna be closed for a lil while.

BigMike

Tonight is the club meeting for the Four Wheel Drive Club of Fresno (see our event post here: https://www.facebook.com/events/460643767342209/) so I am sure this will be discussed. If you are bored tonight and would like to get involved, club meetings are of course open to the public and we encourage as many people to show up. The meeting is held at the Ol Spaghetti Factory just north-west of Shaw and Cedar (about half a mile west of Fresno State University). There is a large conference room in the back left corner (south-west corner) of the restaurant.

Christine (Mrs Crawler), Marlin, Chris (SmackerD), and myself will be there at 6:30pm today. Hope to see you guys there!!

Re: Bald Mtn

Hello all,

I know there is some confusion going on regarding Rock Creek road and Bald Mountain.

The Website, signs at Prather will be changed ASAP to reflect the closures at Bald and Rock Creek.

I included the Record of Decision (ROD) from the "Travel Management," decision back in 2010 that shows the open season of the previously mentioned roads/trails.

The idea was to allow time for wet areas and creek crossings to dry out before OHV use would continue in the Summer. Again this was a decision from "Travel Management," back in 2010. Many of you attended the Public meetings.

We will try to do a better job of updating websites, signs and staff to be consistent with information and help reduce confusion.

I will be assessing the trail system, with resource specialists, in the next couple of days to see current status of the roads/trails. I will update you on our findings by the end of the week.

I apologize if this changes your plans for the weekend.

Thanks for your patience and understanding,

Very disappointing that this be the future of Bald Mountain. Bald Mountain was always a good place to play before the better trails opened. Now with trails having shorter windows of being accessible  it will be more congested, eventually we will probably have to enter a lottery to gain access to them.
I have a lot of good memories of Bald Mountain with my kids in the Spring, too bad they will not be able to pass along the same to their kids.

monk #1164,

Thanks for giving the report at the club meeting last night. After talking with Marlin, who has wheeled Bald since 1983, this is the first time he has ever heard of the trail being closed.

For those who don't know our area, we have at least 11 good four wheeling trails near Shaver Lake - our premier wheeling destination only 1 hour east of California's 5th largest city of Fresno (indeed Fresno's population is greater than both Oakland & Sacramento). Bald Mtn is the only trail we have that is open 365 days a year, snow or shine. Therefore it serves as the only place to wheel when our other ten+ trails are closed for winter and spring months.

In my opinion Bald Mtn is important because 1) it provides a place for all the highschool kids borrowing their daddy's 1975 Chevy Blazer to learn humility, and, closely related, 2) it keeps all the IDIOTS and WACKOS out of our more challenging trails with "environmentally sensitive" features such as lakes.

My hope is that closing Bald - even for short time periods - does not cause these IDIOTS to illegally enter other closed trails.

Regards,
BigMike

Just called the prather station and they said the trail is not to open until may 30th!! They said it may open earlier but as of now, not for another month! That is ridiculous! Where are we supposed to wheel between now and then..?

TimberlineBryce

I'm gonna hit up fashion fair, I heard they just put in some new speed bumps!!!
