R series tranny questions
« on: Dec 13, 2002, 05:09:24 AM »
I have '83 supra motor in my '85 xtra-cab w/ a w56 tranny w/bearing whine. I'm trying to find out if I can swap a supra turbo R154 input shaft into a R151f or a R150 tranny so I can use the turbo bellhousing and clutch.

Hey supratruck,

Marlin says that this can be done, but only if the transmissions are no newer than 1995. It must be a pre-96 because after 95', they changed the helix angle on the constant run teeth and made the input shaft 3/4" longer.
So in another word, early (1986-1995) R trans can not be interchanged around with late (1996+) R trans.

Good luck!

Tranks BigMike.

I think that answers my question. I've been getting mixed answers from other sources. I had started another tread in the Project research section w/ a more detailed description of what I'm planning. Please check it out and let me know if it will still work.
