What size fire extinguisher? and how do you have it mounted? pictures of the mount is what i'm really after, i've been thinking about making one like the one on poly performance.

I carry a small one because it came with my truck when I bought it but its under my rear seat so not too useful really...

I wanna mount mine on the back of my center console or somewhere easily accesible but not at head bashing hieght if I have rear passengers...

we have some pretty hefty ones on the vehicles at work.. there are actual mounts they sell for them to be on vehicles

I carry an 8 pounder anything less is pretty much useless. I also carry one in the bed of my tow rig and trailer too. Can't have too many around, would have lost my Willys if I didn't always have one handy.

I carry two in every rig.  One mounted on floor in front of driver's seat...in case shiate gets bad and it's needed to get out.  In addition one mounted in an accessible location in the rear.  WAAAAAY too many rigs have been lost in the last couple years and I can tell you from personal experience it's a bad feeling to lose an expensive rig completely.

My 3.0l caugt fire the day i got it on the way home..  A fire extinguisher put it out and i keep one strapped to the tranny tunnel in casee there is anotger fire.  A couple of my buddys keep one in the same place

GNasty 82

I carry two small disposable bicarbonate extinguishers in my '82.  I don't have them mounted in the traditional sense.  The seats that came in my truck (not stock) are situated  in such a way that the extinguisher fits perfectly between the side of the back support and door jam panel.  It's very easy to just grab on while I'm GTFO of the truck in case of fire.

I keep one in the cab and one in my tool box in the bed. There a must have. Never needed to use it yet but the day i do it will pay for it self. Make sure you get one that will do all types of fire. there broken down into differnt type of fire, electrical, chemical , and ?????. so make sure its good for them all. Only pain is having to have them serviced every year. Keep it up to date of it might not work when you want it.

How are you guys doing the mounts for inside the cab? I want it to be solid but still easily removable. I have seen plastic mounts but what good is the fire extinguisher gonna do for you after it comes loose and hits you in the head.

Weekendwheeler83

I have one mounted on the back wall of my cab. It's mounted vertically, using one of those plastic mounts that it came with. It sits perfectly between the shoulders of my bucket seats and is super easy to get to. I just put a few sheetmetal screws through the provided holes in the mount and into the cab. It's been there for 2 1/2 years and never come loose.

I have an old metal mount, with a quick release buckle thing, It has never moved in 5 years, maybe I can find a picture.

I mount mine in the bed area with the harness provided. FYI don't just leave one loose they can become a dangerous thing flying around in the cab if you roll.

Got mine mounted in the center of the extra cab bench. probably never going to need it unless i forget to put some relays for my lights  :smack:

sctoyota

I have one behind the seat. Its a small one that I got at Harbor Freight. I hope it works when I need it! It has some velcro on it so it doesn't roll around behind the seat.
Fat chicks and mopeds are a good ride until someone sees you.

BAMF

I've got two in my rig.  The first one is a small halon extinguisher for the engine compartment so I don't make things a royal mess in there.  The second one is a larger chemical extinguisher for larger fires where a mess doesn't matter... or if the small halon didn't work in the engine compartment

I've had two engine fires (one electrical and one off the fuel rail) and I can tell you there is no worse panicky feeling than to see your vehicle on fire and no better feeling of relief than when you're holding an empty fire extinguisher in your hand and staring at what could have been a catastrophe.

I've also used vehicle borne fire extinguishers to put out a dozen other fires on things fireworks gone awry to vehicles stuck in high grass that was burning.

Steve_925

if you want to do a really easy mount, you can run some thin bailing wire down the fire x with a loop on one end, then duct tape it. all you have to do is pull the wire and it tares the duct tape

Usually I keep mine in the toolbox.  But I haven't had the toolbox in the truck for the last month.  Been hauling trash and firewood lately.  Cab just doesn't have a good place where it isn't in the way, or covered with stuff.  Damn std cab with bench seat.
