electrical problems
« on: Oct 08, 2010, 12:30:43 PM »
I have a 1982 toyota pickup and the battery keeps draining itself.  When Im driving it every day it is fine, but if I leave it for 2 or 3 days i have to stick it on the charger to get it to start (I have a newer red top battery).  What I have done so far is to take the positive termial off the battery and measured the voltage difference.  With the truck off there is conductivity between the positive cable and battery.  I then unplugged every fuse in my fuse box and checked it again still conductivity.  I also have aftermarket accesories like air compressor and lights which I unplugged and still conductivity.  Does anyone have any ideas of what to check next??  Im kinda at a loss.  What could bet taking power and draining my battery.  :dunno:

Thanks in advance for the help

1st thing to check is the voltage reg on the drivers side fender well.  Unplug it and ck for draw.  Also check the ground cable to the frame for voltage. Could be a dead short.  Also the cab light could be causing a voltage draw.  Basically it would be a good idea to disconnect every add on and leave them disconnected until you find the problem.  Also how much are you reading on volt meter with ignition off ? Does it go up when ignition is on ?

Pull all the fuses and then add them back watching for current drain.............
