electrical/transmission problems????
« on: Feb 21, 2008, 02:18:05 PM »
first i will tell you what i have then whats wrong.

85 4runner 22RE with an automatic

the problem:

when i put it in drive and try to move it will barely move. and when i say barely move i mean wont make it over a 2" bump to get into my garage. but if i put it in reverse it will pull just fine. the "charge" light came on. also the clock in the dash usually doesn't work but now it is and the rear power window and wiper has stopped working. other thing that have stopped working with this is the fuel gauge and the temperature gauge.

any ideas? just bought this thing 2 weeks ago and this is breaking me bad.

thanks
-W.F.

sounds liek a lose ground connection or some other electrical problem and a transmission issue...

if the truck was never driveable well to you at least, i am willing to bet your tranny's soft parts are shot and it needs a rebuild. it is very common for people to sell a vehcile at that point... usually they will run a little bit when cold but wont move at all when warm. and the fact that reverse works fine and you have no forward gears....
