Electrical Problems...Pls Help!!??
« on: Dec 29, 2004, 02:03:30 PM »
Coming home from work and the gauge is showing about 8 volts and and idle is about 400 RPM too high, but I never touched the adjustment screw.  Then big thud and electrical system shuts down, truck still running.  I replace the battery and the blown 80 amp fusible link, plus all the other fuses and links under the hood.  Truck fires back up and still idle too high and low voltage reading, checked all grounds, replaced one, no help, started checking with meter, alternator is charging and battery is showing 12 volts...any ideas??   :headscratch:

Check voltage regulator.  You can run on battery power w/out lights for a couple of days.  Check your lights from a distance at night.  If they are not bright and white you got low volts.  Voltage at battery w/engine running should be about 15vdc in a Toy.

Do you have a short somewhere in your cab? Can you verify that your engine really is idling 400 rpm too high by using a timing gun. Maybe an in-cab short is causing your tach to read incorrectly as well.

I can verify that the engine is idling too high.  I looked through the cab, disconnected my stereo system, etc, can't find any shorts.
