help! fuel pump electrical problems
« on: Jan 15, 2004, 02:56:46 PM »
After having the cab off I have no power to a few coponents on my truck, they are the fuel pump and windshield wipers and pump. I picked this truck up for 100 bucks and the frame was shot so i put a new frame under it and a few inches of lift, now that i have it all back together i cant get it to run. It ran for a few seconds at a time when i got it but the fuel line was rusted off so it wasnt getting enough fuel so it kept shutting off, now i have no power to the fuel pump at all........ WHATS WRONG?      :dunno:

Just remember  :smack: "KISS" Keep It Simple Stupid" Not my frase but it's true. look for and do the easy things first.  First check fuses - assuming you did, Look backwards, run a test light or volt meter to your fuel pump and check for voltage with key on run position. If power and pump isn't making any noise - well then bad pump but if there's no power to the pump plug, start tracing back up to the fuse box - like checking all your plug-ins on the wiring harness to the pump and check for power at each plug in on the way up to fuse box. If you had cab off it could be just a loose plug in but Toy makes some pretty good plugs, they just don't come apart themselfs. Just a prosess of elimination.

Hope this helps out and I know you'll figure it out

good points tballs! also just becuze it don't work don't just mean that it does not have power. (80% chance it wont)  but the other 20% is ground! if you do have power to something and its not working before you toss it check that theres no power coming out of it. if there IS power coming out then its a bad ground!
A good day working, that's just sick :reg:

 Great Info here

Don't mean to high jack  :smack:  the thread but what better place to put for  starting and fuel pump problems when searching

1985 4runner, alway ran fine, sits parked most of the time, (4x4 rig only)
? truck starts and dies , runs for 2-3 seconds each time,
 :help:  :dunno:
Question if Cold start injector is getting engine started , is the fuel pump bad ?
has spark, checked fuses, changed ECU's
What year fuel pumps work for 1985?

thanks guys
