I'm just using one out of a ford Taurus. I drilled a few holes and made a bracket and now it bolts right up. Works pretty good. It draws a lot of power so I recommend a high output alternator.

The Black Magic ones have their own mounts that bolt to the existing core supports, have there own built in adjustable t-stat, and can be wired to have both the auto and manual on/off function.   I have had one on my '90 since '99, and it has worked flawlessly.

I've used the black magic one on my rig and I went through 4 of them. 1st one circuit board overheated and melted, 2nd one the wires shorted to eachother inside the motor cover, 3rd one the relay on the circuit board melted, 4th one motor didn't work outta the box. I gave up and got my money back. I went back to the mechanical and it hasn't failed me at all.

I wired mine to run all the time, it comes on with the ignition, might be why it has worked so well.  With the trouble you had, I can see why you went back to a mechanical one.
