electric fan
« on: Jan 24, 2006, 12:47:34 AM »
I have a fan from a 4.0 jeep. I wnat to put it on my truck in place of the stocker. Do ya'll think it is beefy enough? It is about the same size as the stock in width and diameter. I think its a puller. but that doesnt matter if I wire it the other way right? If I do wire it, what size relay do i use?

a puller fan is what you want under the hood of the vehicle..... you are trying to pull cold air into the engine bay from outside... not push warm air through the radiator into the outside air....

a puller is a puller, reversing it jsut makes it ineffective... it wont work properly trying to run the dc motor in reverse as the blades arent tuned for that

a pusher fan mounts to the out side of the radiator and pushes cold air from the front of the truck thru the radiator. u can mount a fan either way you just have to wire it acordingly.

Unless you're running a different engine or doing deep water crossings, why would you want an electric fan?

its just sitting in my room. I used one one my chevy for a long time and just figured it would have the same benefits. I would just like to know what size regulator I should use.

The reason I went electric   :shocking: ,Is couse I had a overheating problum on long idle times on the trail. Tried a new clutch fan and Rad. But did'nt work tel I put in the electric.

 Thanks for the link. That looks like a worthy  :twocents: investment. Right after I get this  trailFlex Kit in.

P.S. Anyone concedering an electric fan on an older rig, your gonna need to upgrade your Alt. The stock 40 Amp doesn't cut it. I'm running a 105 Amp Delcotron. Pretty easy install.
Oh ya BIGGER wires to.    :sad2: Trust me.

Unless you're running a different engine or doing deep water crossings, why would you want an electric fan?

Because they are better?

I can work on the inside of my engine compartment with the engine running without having to worry about hacking my hands or fingers off.

Built in shroud. Controls. More efficient. Smaller. Lighter. I can pull my engine more quickly. You know... All sorts of pluses!

Ill very true statements. When I put elec. in, I ended up being very pleased with myself for all those reasons and more. My problem was, when i was on a night run and had everything on, ( Stereo, Lights, Heater, Fan, and more Lights) Things got a little toasty under the hood. The stock Alt. and wiring couldn't handle everything at once. So I had to figure out an upgrade. Not to mention more power for the Wench.
