Weber on my built engine
« on: Sep 01, 2010, 03:36:44 PM »
Hey guys, I realize this has been hammered to death but I still have a question. First off I have a fresh 22r with a engnbldr kit in it with his rv cam, head shaved a bit, .5mm bigger valves, header into 2 1/2 then muffler dumped, and a weber 32/36 carb.

My issue is that with the mixture screw backed out 1 turn its still blowing black out the exhaust onto my garage floor. It also has a best of 14 mpg in my 85 runner with 235 tires.

My question is, do i need to purchase the Jet Kit - Weber 32/36 DGAS Carburetor Jet Kit (High Elevation/Fuel Economy) from weber to dial in my carb?

Is this the cheapest place to get this kit?

Also im in Columbus, Ohio so which jets does everyone recommend for my runner?

Ps. Ive reaad most of the weber threads.

Thanks

Dustin

Do you have a fuel pressure regulator installed?   something like 3psi iirc.

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HLY-12-804/

when mine didn't have the regulator installed there was always black smoke esp upon startup.

Glen will know about the jetting.

Well I had a cheap fpr on it from autozone, i think it was a sliver spectre(sp?) and it had a dial you could turn from .5-5.5 . I took it off and the truck runs a ton better.

Also I played with the mixture screw today after I went through the setup procedure again. I have it 1/2 turn out from bottom and it puts out less smoke. But it doesnt seem to run much different than when I have it 3 turns out.It idles good and as smooth at a cammed 4 banger does. It drives well to, it just drinks gas, and it doesnt seem to do much when the secondaries open up either. Just seems like the primaries are open.

your jets are too big,  get the rejett kit from Redline Weber or LCE

I'll subscribe to this and watch for your jet kit to arrive, in the mean time you can lower the float a little

lowering the float will help your fuel problem and keep it from surging when you go over a bump

i would look into finding a shim headgasket,   .020 is way too much to remove from a head unless your gonna be running methanol or propane

you will definitely need a adjustable cam gear and you'll need to dial in the cam timing because otherwise you'll be about half a tooth or more off on the cam timing

when it gets to your house you need to first write down what jets you have in the fuel bowl and the air jets

Ok the fuel mileage kit showed up today and I tore into. My current factory jets are as follows.

Primary fuel-140
secondary fuel-150
primary air-170
secondary air-180
primary idle-60
secondary idle-50

let me know what you thin that I need to do.

Also on a odd side not, I reinstalled the fpr that I've got and turned it to the 3psi mark and it starves the engine. It even starves the truck at the 5.5 max mark.

put the fpr back on then open the mixture screw till the engine runs then tell me how many turns out you had to turn it

we need to set the jets AFTER you have the pressure regulated

ok, pull the fuel jest out, put the 150 in the primary hole and a 160 in the secondary,  then let me know how that works.  you SHOULD be able to turn the mixture screw in after changing jets

Ok, as I figured..... I have the wrong jet kit and don't have a 160 jet. So I jetted to 145p and 150s as that's the biggest I have. I changed the jet and could not get the truck to idle for the life of me with the truck set at 3 psi. If I turned it up I could get it to idle, but it would stumble so bad if floored from an idle it would die. So I tried and tried to get it started and I think my 2 month old starter died. The starter got hot and it wo t turn over now but all the dash lights and everything else are working. This Toyota has been nothing but a nightmare. I've only been able to put maybe 1k miles on it in over 2 years. I wish some of you gurus lived close to me.
