steering box toast...or???
« on: Aug 02, 2010, 06:57:50 AM »
Wellll, my steering box has started to leak..fairly bad...so i looked into it further. The shaft that the pitman arms goes onto actually travels upward giving it quite a bit of slop and causing some not so nice noises. I have messed with other boxes..(vw) and it's got the same kind of adjustment screw as whats on those....SO can i adjust out the slop up and down, or is it basically time for a rebuilt box and call it done?!   :dunno:

Your box is toast.  It either needs to be rebuilt or replaced.  That adjustment screw is for preload not really ment for over worn internal parts.

anyone sell the parts to rebuild....or do i have to give my box to someone. id really like to do it myself if i can. but dropping 300 on a box could solve the problem completely.........

I know I can get them thru a local auto parts store here.  If you cant get them there then go to toyota. Also I think daves offroad sells kits.
